Changes in Past and Current Educational system

Things are changing day by day, of which the impact of this changes affect our education system. I remember while growing up everyone is always happy to go to school, infact being educated then was a prestige. You will see the illiterate villagers worshipping their village head masters as kings just because of one or two english vocabulary he speaks.Education was highly cherished then because they believe it's a way to better life.

Many of us can remember how most of our parent tell us stories how their parent sold their precious items just to send to school. Infact, As at then, it's a prestige to the parent that their child is educated. You see joy on their parents faces once their children return back to the village.

But things are different now, Education is not being cherished as before again. Most of the times you hear student saying "school is scam". I wondered how this same school which our parent cherish in the 70's and 80's became scam all of a sudden🤔. This is what poor goverance has caused. Education has being religated to nothing. Unlike before, once a student graduate from school, there is already a lucrative job waiting on ground, infact my mum once told me that some organization will as well give out official cars. But things are different now. Infact as a first class graduate one have to struggle to get jobs, of which does jobs are not lucrative enough to cater for daily needs.

In most of the school we have now, student no longer respect their teachers. I remember my parent telling me how they so much respect their teachers during their time in school. They honour their teachers in words and actions. But now things are different, you hear student speaking back at their teachers at any slight correction. Infact some gave their teachers hurtful names. To make the matter worst, Some parent comes to school to shout and rain curses upon teachers because the teacher correct the student. I wondered how we get here, is this also part of civilization?

Imagine a student being corrected for not doing assignment and the student insulted the teacher back by telling the teacher that without her paying school fees the teacher can't survive, talkless of meeting his daily needs and that the teacher should careful or else he will starve to death. To be candid what will you do if you are the teacher?.

Back then, their is no civilization has we have today, Many of our parent have to treck in miles and kilometers before getting to school, no internet to source for educational materials, sourcing for educational materials was quite difficult but now things are much more easy. There is easy means of transportation, schools are no longer far away from homes. There is easy access to internet but the truth is that are we truly maximizing it?

Ask many student of this days trending songs, dance steps and movies. They will joyful explain in details, some will even go at length to demonstrate does dance steps😂. But when it comes to education, they don't put in their best. Only few are serious about education.

I will conclude with this short story, i once teach in a private school, there is a student in Jss2 who is always late and unserious in class. The school management invited his guardian, who was his elder brother. The management explained to his brother about the student attitude towards education. I was shocked when his brother replied😳. Guess what?. He said he is not concern if he does not understand other subject he is particular about him understanding how to read and write in English, that even him that graduated in university, he never got a job and he is proud to tell anybody that he is into yahoo and he is living a life of luxury, all he want is that his brother should understand English so that he can join him in the business too.

Can we now say because the state of education system is deteriorating we should now go back to olden days method of schooling, No. Its high-time government should create job opportunities for graduates, school curriculum should be reviewed and also parents should play a part by monitoring and inculcating the act of honour, diligence and self-discipline into their children.
