The world needs teachers like me.

Teaching is one of the professions I find very valuable in the world because of the impact of teachers on the society. I usually feel like teachers are not appreciated well enough, I don't want to generalize this as a global thing but with what I have seen in my country, becoming a teacher is the last thing on my mind.

I expect teachers to live like kings among other professions because of how they have helped the society to a great extent but it is the other way around. They are been paid peanuts which is not encouraging.

After my first experience as a teacher, I developed a lot of passion for the profession but the truth is that I can't settle for the profession because having passion isn't enough to be successful as a teacher.

At the government level, they are being owed salaries and the private sector ain't helping matters. Most school owners are only after their profits, they pay teachers peanuts which is very unfair.

It's no new thing to the ears that to become any profession in the world, you have to pass through a teacher. They have raised leaders across the world and they should really be treated properly so that they can be eager to put more effort into the work.

After my secondary school education, I worked as a teacher even though it wasn't on a professional standard.

The stress was something else but impacting knowledge into the students was something that gave me lots of happiness. I was so much in love with the job and if teachers were been treated right, I would opt-in to go to a college of education back since it doesn't cost much as the polytechnic and universities.

I remembered a particular day when I asked my students to write about what they wanted to become in the future and why.

They submitted the next day and surprisingly, none of them wanted to become a teacher. I asked why and their response cracked me up.
I tried explaining that the world needs more teachers but it didn't change their mindset.

I started as a primary school teacher and later taught mathematics in junior secondary school. All through that time, mathematics was a subject I was always looking forward to teaching. I love other subjects but I gave maths special attention because I have met lots of students struggling with math.

Some find it boring while many believe that they can't understand it just because they hear their elders always complaining about the subject.

It gave me a lot of concern then but due to my calm and friendly way of teaching, I was able to help a lot of kids improve. Things didn't stop at just improving, a few of them ended up falling in love with maths.

Because of my experience as a teacher, I will love to teach mathematics if I decide to take a teaching job again. It's been over a decade now and I don't know if I will still be able to flow with teaching the subject but I can always pick things up from where I left them.

I still teach my younger siblings and they help me keep my brain fresh even though not completely.

I remembered a practical test I went for in 2018 while trying to take a teaching job again. I was allowed to take any subject and I chose math.

The students expressed their dissatisfaction with the subject but when I was leaving, they wanted me to spend more time with them. I didn't take the job because they offered me $20 as a salary.

I was going out one day when I saw some students from the school and they approached me asking why I didn't come back.

I wish I could but I have a lot of dreams that money won't bring to reality.

I choose mathematics for a few reasons and I hope you will understand better after reading to the end.

  • A lot of students find it difficult to understand mathematics because they believe the subject is difficult and many mathematics teachers aren't helping matters. They go around frowning and many of them beat at any slight mistake a student makes.
Being a maths teacher doesn't make me a demon and, taking up the job would make me help many students realize that maths is not just understandable but math teachers are friendly people as well.

  • The world is gradually lacking maths teachers at the grassroots level and becoming one would at least make me reach out to more students so that they can have good knowledge of mathematics at the foundation level.

  • Teaching mathematics gives me the privilege to earn more money as a teacher. The demand for maths teachers is high and I can take that advantage to make more money. Aside from teaching in schools, maths teachers are being employed for after school lessons just because of the large number of student struggling with maths and you can tell that's extra to my salary.

Being a math teacher is incredible and I wouldn't mind taking up the job now as long as it comes to good pay. My purpose won't be about the students only because I will definitely be a role model to other maths teachers who feel like they are at war when in the front of the classroom.

Mathematics and problem-solving subjects are very much interesting if one gets a hang of it.

Meanwhile, teaches deserve better treatment cause that job is quite taxing.

I like your choice selection.
Well-done!

They are truly interesting and like I mentioned in the post, many of these subject teachers are ones who make understanding those subject difficult for students just because of their terrible teaching style.

Being a maths teacher can be quite tasking, as it's the least favorite subject by students, I understand you, if only teachers were treated well according to their exhausting job, you would have been a math professor now😃😃

Professor? No, I am not that guru in mathematics but I just love to make kids see the good side of the subject because they will need it as they go further with their education.

As a Maths teacher, if you want your students to enjoy the subject, you must be friendly as well. In fact, it is for all subjects. Students develop hatred for a subject when the teacher handling it is not friendly. That was what made me hate Accounting because the man, Mr. Alfred was kind of wicked and boring. Lol

I started understanding Mathematics better when I entered the University because the man taught in a friendly way and had to break those lessons bit by bit... I was like, so Maths is this sweet? 😄

Many of the mathematics teacher approach to teaching is terrible and they most time turn kids off. Being a match teacher, I sure can get kids to like the subject and that's why I choose it.

I too found mathematics very difficult in school. Especially in secondary school because the math teachers we had didn't even know how to properly teach the subject.
It affected the students a lot.

I enjoyed math in junior school but at the beginning of my senior school, things turned differently.

I ended up finding a teacher who brought back the love for the mathematics, many teachers are making the learning difficult for students.

Many teachers don't even know how to teach the subjects properly and it's sad.

Mathematics is actually a pretty easy and straightforward subject. The problem with students not failing at it is that they are simply not interested in it to begin with.

The first priority of a teacher is to arouse interest in their students. But unfortunately, many of them fail to do that. Then they make it challenging by even making it boring.

I failed a lot in mathematics in secondary school, so much so that I was so bad at it in my first year in university. Things eventually changed as I made efforts. If only Mr. George was my teacher earlier on.

I am curious about what those kids thought about being a teacher that cracked you up.

The kids actually started with how poor the teachers who live in their neighborhood are, one of them even mentioned a teacher in that same school who wears one trouser for a week.

For kids to already know that teacher aren't paid well is something else.

I just knew it! Kids are actually watching. They know what "poor" means.

Being a teacher is just as important as it is humbling. The job of a teacher is 90% sacrifice and 10% profit. No wonder I don't find myself being a teacher.

The society expect teacher to do more of the sacrifice thing than make money which isn't possible. We take every profession because of money and it is wrong for people to expect teachers to work for passion instead of money

Mathematics is gradually fading out honestly and it's a great problem for our younger generation but just like you said, it's also a good reason why the demand and cost for any mathematics teacher is high

I guess the technological advancements caused it because with the coming of calculator and other gadgets, people care less about using their brains for calculating

Hmmm, that's true. The invention of calculator and others caused the students to be lazy.

My younger ones look at me when I do simple calculation off hand and schools don't encouraged students in mathematics anymore.

I see the reason why students run for maths is because of incompetent teachers who are not good at taking the subject. Maths needs a good teacher who knows the in and out of proffering solution in a easy way.

I remember my maths lecturer when I was in university the first semester lecturer was not good and I failed the course. Though some other passed. But the second semester lecturer was so good at why he does. And majority passed. It made me love maths even more.

Many teacher are incompetent not because they don't know maths but because they don't know how to teach.

If they can work towards their teaching techniques, a lot of student will love that particular subject more.

being a teacher is not an easy thing, but we need struggle and patience when it comes to teaching, especially nowadays many students don't have manners and manners, success for the content

It is definitely not easy to be a teacher and the interest kids are having in education is slowly fading away which is another big problem.

My dear, I even rejected where I got posted in the hospital during my nysc and choose a school before I loved to impact knowledge. But then, the money aspect isn't encouraging... teaching job is a profession I love because of the students majorly but we also need money to survive. Until the government review teachers salary, I wouldn't consider it anymore.

Maths teacher? I comot cap for u 🤣

I am not that good at it but I can prepare a child for what's ahead and help them love maths as they progress.

The financial parts of our life must be put into consideration when taking a job and if both public and private sector can work something out then a lot of people will love to work as a teacher.

Oh, you can always say that again @george-dee. Teaching is a profession I have passion for. I love teaching too much, it gives me joy whenever I does it.

It's very true that the world is lacking mathematic teachers. If you go to secondary school there are few of them.

Thank you for sharing with us.

There are few maths teacher out there and many of them choose to work as subject teachers for multiple schools than staying in just one school.

Teaching in different schools everyday can be tiring but when the pay is good, the motivation is there.

I expect teachers to live like kings among other professions because of how they have helped the society to a great extent but it is the other way around. They are been paid peanuts which is not encouraging.

This is why we grow up saying that teachers can only be rewarded in heaven.

I can't say I'm strong in mathematics, the math teacher of my time didn't make it an easy task.

You've outlined interesting reasons why you would love to teach again and math in particular.

It's nice, I hope you don't get discouraged if you get paid peanut

However, like you said, when there's a demand for something, the pay is usually high.

I have heard the saying a lot of time but I refuse to admit that teacher's reward his in heaven. I don't think the bible ever stated that and we need money here to survive not in heaven.

Honestly teachers need to be treated fairly so that even the coming generation will be eager to take the job.

The fact you didn't left the money part😂. Aaaah George😂😂.

Mathematics is a great course and it's best when the teacher teaching it is nice and accommodating but no it's the opposite because the teachers in charge of teaching mathematics make it looks hard because they always frown face as you have said 🥲. I could remember I was good in mathematics in junior high school that I was even given an award for it but when I get to senior high school I hate mathematics because of the teacher that was in charge of teaching us. That's why teachers play a major role to make students understand a course.

A lot of students turn out to hate the subject because of the relationship they have with the subject teacher.

The money part must be considered very well because without money, I can fill my belly and be strong enough to teach.

Teaching is not easy, I know that from first hand experience. So when I see people that genuinely love the profession, I doff my hat for them. You guys are the OG.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

It's truly not easy but there are still people who are passionate about teaching. I have a teacher back then who joined the military to be a teacher again and he is doing pretty well. If the pay was good, the world will discover that there are a lot of people who loves teaching.
