My Origin

Good day, folks. Thanks to the #hivelearners community contest, I will be writing about my hometown and its residents on today's post. Welcome back! It's nice to have you stop by again.

Without further Ado, join me as I take you on a tour to my origin.

My name is Glory Ossom maiden name , I'm from Akwa-Ibom state, which is in Nigeria's south-south geopolitical zone and is also known as the "land of promise." My local government is called Nsit-Ubium, and my people speak the Ibibio language. When I was around three years old, I was taken to my hometown for the first time, but I don't remember that because my parents only told me. I was born and raised in Lagos State, Since then, I've visited quite a few times, and I've even lived there because my tertiary education was in the state's capital, Uyo. After which I back to Lagos due to marriage and only visit once in a while due to the high cost of transportation and insecurity in the country. The distance from Lagos to Akwa-Ibom is far and the travel time can take up to 12 hours by road, and 1 hour by flight.

I last visited in November 2021 alongside my husband and first daughter as I had just a child at the time.The journey to Akwa-Ibom was not enjoyable for me due to motion sickness and vomiting all through the journey until we arrived, I learnt it was caused by the fact that it's been a long while a embarked on such a long journey, which made me sick the first two days fortunately, I had my mother-in-law who took care of me and my two-year-old daughter, Although we only stayed for a week before returning to work, the visit was so delightful that I wished we could have stayed longer. I made sure to visit my aunts, uncles, and cousins as well. Returning back to Lagos, I didn't experience the sick feeling again, hopefully, when next I go, I would be able to afford travelling by air.

What makes my people unique?

Hospitality

Akwa-Ibom people are known to be the most hospitable people, they treat everyone with care and respect irrespective of your origin, I have never read or heard a bad review on hospitality from someone who visited the state, if you are a corper assigned to serve Nigeria in Akwa-Ibom state, you would be glad because you will enjoy your stay there.

Food

When it comes to cooking the most mouthwateringly delicious dishes, Akwa-Ibomites top the list. Some examples include ekpang, afang soup, nkong (a very healthy vegetable soup), and afia efere (white soup). This is one of the things I always look forward to when I visit my hometown because I know I will be pampered with the various delicacies at any home I choose to visit. As a result, I always come back to Lagos looking fresh with a bigger cheek.

Cleanliness

One of the unique features I observed in my hometown is how they take cleanliness paramount, even though you live in the remote part of the state, first thing in the morning, they cut the palm leaves and use it as broom to sweep their entire environment, compound, the streets and tared road constructed by the government is not excluded, and I mean this is done every single day. I can confidently say Akwa-Ibom is the cleanest state in Nigeria.

Religious

My people are very religious, Christianity being the most practiced religion, no wonder they refer to themselves as Akwa Abasi Ibom, God's own state, every year, the state governor organizes a carol services where Christmas carol will be rendered by the largest choir in the world, Akwa-Ibom state unity choir, we even got on guiness world record in the year 2015.

Blessed with natural resources

My people are blessed with numerous natural resources and is ranked as the 3rd most oil producing state in the country. Rice, cassava, yam, plantains, bananas, maize, and lots of vegetables are just a few of the agricultural goods that are cultivated and harvested in the state with success thanks to the favorable environment and fertile soil. Akwa Ibom has one of the largest palm forest, one unique feature is that you see palm trees almost every where in the state.

We are beautiful

Looking for a beautiful and well cultured bride 😉 come to Akwa Ibom, no doubt, we have the most beautiful women of different complexion, whether fair or dark skin and are also very intelligent.
