A QUIT TO SACRIFICE...

I stated in my previous post that I quit my job due to family reasons. I never opened up to the main reason why I sacrificed my good pay job, with less stress until this topic from #hivelearners this week. The missing part of my story is here for you to know the reason why I decided of quitting that job as an option to sacrifice for my family.

Believe me or not, some decisions are just too heavy to accept especially when it has to affect your personal goals. However, when it comes to family issues, it's always a sensitive matter that will be given so much consideration. Of course our family first 👌

It was exactly this period two years ago, we were already rounding up for the year in the former company I worked as an Admin Assistant. We normally close on December 10th or 15th depending on the work at hand and then reopen on the same date by next year in January. It's usually a one month paid holiday for all staff. My husband and I also were planning on relocating to our new home which is a bit far from my working place. He returned home from work one day and told me to inform my Boss that I won't resume work the following year. This decision came too suddenly to me, I never expected such a sudden quit considering my position in that office, how much I love my job and the beautiful relationship I have with other staff and my Boss.

The decision of my husband the quit was not only due to our relocation but due to the health challenges my first son has been having. The nature of my job was so simple for me to attend to my son even with his health challenge then. This was because, one: the office is just a stone's throw from where we lived before, a very walkable place, two, it's a private firm controlled by my retired boss and so anytime he travels outside the country, he gives me some days off to look after my family, same as any time he and other staff travel within the country for a project. So there is no month that I don't get a casual leave. However, there have been several times I took permission to attend to my son's health, especially during an emergency and this was possible because of the close distance between my home and my office then.

20220815_123858_0001.png

I was made to realize by my husband that in as much as I value my job, and wouldn't want to be a housewife, the health of our son calls for urgent attention, and working at a very far distance might not give me the room to attend to him when the need arises. He made me realize also that even if I decide to take another job close by, not every organization can pay me well and still permit me every time to attend to family health issues as my former does. They might give you such a hand for 2 to 3 months but don't expect it to continue otherwise it will reflect on your salary. According to our doctor, it's a health challenge that he will overcome with time and so my husband requested that I sacrifice my job and look closely at the health of our son until everything is over and then I can look for another job.

20220815_123858_0001.png

I sat down to think of all these. I have invited my little sister to stay with me, I also suggested to my husband to hire a nanny but he said no that no one can attend to my son the way I should and that's a raw Truth 👌 . I have hated to bear the name "stay-at-home mum" but when it's because of health, I had no choice but to quit! Even at home, I received calls from my son's school on different occasions which requires that I either rush to the school to pick him up immediately or the school bring him back home or take him to the hospital. At a time, I thank God that I am always available for my son, and at times, I missed my job...such a mixed feeling 😉

20220815_123858_0001.png

Did letting my job go, affected me?

Oh yes, I missed that monthly salary 😉, that calculated money that usually solves part of my needs but glad I found hive. I was faced with lots of jobs that pushed me to consistent research thereby learning more about oil and gas which was the main thing we are into, but now nothing to motivate me on that anymore. The way I was going then, I was so deep into the oil and gas system (not my profession but I was obtaining so much training from both my boss and staff), some staff already gave me some links to a larger oil and gas firm which I can work with if I have enough experience with their help as well. None of them are in Nigeria as I speak, I missed all of those training, in fact, I don't know if their plans towards me will still hold but I am happy that my Son's health is so stable now. He was the reason why I quit!!

Aww, I enjoyed reading this post and indeed, you sacrificed your job for your son's health which was the best then.
Though, it would hurt at first but one has no choice when it comes to health issue of the children.

Thank God your son's health is stable now and it's because you were always available. The truth is that no one can act or care for a child as the mother would.

There are so many things we have to do for love sake, your husband must have had a good reason why he wanted to relocate at first and I'm very sure he explained that to you as well and the both of you were able to come to an agreement which was really so beautiful.

The truth is, you had so many other reasons to not quit your job but then you still had to quit the job because you were able to see that there are some things that are just not debatable and that was why you had to let go of your job. If you had chosen to be a learned wife and gave your husband reasons why you can't quit your job, I'm very sure by now you might just be married to your job instead because your husband won't take it lightly if anything was to happen to his son.

Thank God for giving you the wisdom to make the right decision that has been one of the best decisions if you ask me. Thank God your son is now stable, I'm sure everything will keep falling into place for you and your family.

Indeed, I must have been married to my job by now 😂😂
You just spoke as if you knew my husband.. lolz
This is one sacrifice that I felt the heat so much at the beginning. The whole house was looking so bored and unbearable...I can't explain how I felt...it was bad knowing the good working time I had with my co workers ...but here we are today, I will look back and still thank God for everything

Thanks for your beautiful comment my darling 🥰🤗

Love they say conquers all. It's the love and respect for your husband and child that made you quit. As a married woman, it comes with a lot of sacrifices, I'm glad you didn't allow the love of the money you were receiving to blind your decision of staying home to care for your kids.

I'm happy to hear that your son's health is better and that he's doing well. Thanks to God and you too for being a great mom.

Wow... That must have been a difficult decision you had to make. But then, you did it for the right reasons. You would have never forgiven yourself if something were to happen and you were to far away to do anything about it.
Love always involves sacrifices.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

Things we do for our family and loved ones, I'm so glad to know that your son health is in a good place now.

I can felt your husband's concerns when he said 'no one can care for your son the way you will' truly no one can.

Any good mom in your situation will likely do the same.

I wish you and your family all the very best in all you do.

I want to say a lot of things but I haven't had a child before so I wouldn't know what it feels like to leave my career because my husband said so when we could have been able to afford a nanny.

It's all good. Since he is okay now. You are acted like the Queen that you are. 😍☺️

Well, it wasn't an easy peasy decision. I involved my family members and his family too cos everyone knows about my son's health challenge. Unfortunately, no one supported me...they all said he is right and I sat back and saw reasons from their end. It's been two years of series of experiences with him.... it's been lots of admissions in the hospital and all were emergency

I think I made the right decision, life first but glad the battle is over now by God's grace 🙏

Thanks so much Queen Iska

Hello there, Nkemanochi!
Hehe. I knew you’d say you missed the monthly salary. You this woman! You’re really big woman!

I’m sorry you had to quit your job, it must’ve been really painful, but obviously you did it for the right reasons. And truth! No one would’ve been able to take care of your child better.

Thanks for sharing.
