Evolve & Augment

avatar

I imagine a world where we will have many of our tasks automated and many aspects of our lives enhanced by advanced autonomous systems. We will soon live in a world where many of the things that may seem mind-blowing and fascinating now will become "the usual," just like how the internet took the world by storm at its dawn.

image.png

Making my life much simpler and more efficient, and being able to do things more effectively with minimal effort, is usually number one in my thought process when it comes to doing anything. So the cartoons and TV shows I watched as a kid somehow shaped my interests and the picture of what I'd like my everyday life to be like as an adult.

Before 2022 and the rise of ChatGPT, I never really saw artificial intelligence as something that would change the world in the way that it is doing now. I just thought of it as some computational software capable of replicating human intelligence to some degree. Seeing how it has transformed our perception of what is possible with technology in the last couple of months, I know for sure that it's something that will always fascinate me.

From self-driving cars to text, image, and video generation to intelligent humanoids, we have seen things that we would have deemed impossible years ago. And we are only at the dawn of a new era where many more possibilities with AI and robotics are yet to come.

image.png

Sometimes, I automate the simplest tasks in my life with AI. I have asked chatbots like ChatGPT and Perplexity.ai to do things that allowed me to do things 10x faster than I could have on my own. For example, I use them to sort out my calendars and tasks more efficiently or even develop the most effective rosters I need for specific purposes. Even for brainstorming and researching, my productivity levels are usually much higher with them.

If there's anything that I could do with AI to make my life much easier and achieve more productivity, I would, as long as it doesn't cross ethical boundaries or inhibit my creative thinking.

Like every other tool in the world today, what we make of AI determines if it's a boon in our society (or individual lives) or a bane. There's so much power we could harness when we augment ourselves with this technology, and there is so much damage we can cause with the same technology.

There's talk every now and then about "AI taking jobs from people." That really is happening. I have seen countless news stories about tech companies laying off some of their staff simply because AI in their work allows them to need fewer people on deck. It's sad when you think of the affected families, and even sadder when you are in such shoes.

image.png

It's scary to see some computers get good at doing what you spent years mastering and then turn into a source of livelihood. It's even worse to see people go to that computer rather than you for your skill. And hearing that, with AI, there will be new kinds of jobs that one can delve into to not be left behind isn't exactly what people want to hear because transitioning isn't always easy.

The truth about AI is that it really will never have certain qualities of our human intelligence. The human brain is an impeccably powerful computer on its own, and our creativity, empathy, and intuition are essentially what make us above AI, no matter how developed AI can be—for a very long time, at least. Where the human brain falls short is memory, sadly, and that's what computers do way better than us.

Just like you would use a lawn mower to tidy the lawn way faster than with hand tools and how you would use a calculator to perform mathematical operations quicker than doing it all with your head, augmenting ourselves with AI and robotics technologies should be our focus for true evolution.

The world is evolving, and so we should evolve with it if we don't want to get left behind. It may seem easier said than done, but there surely must be ways to implement AI in our jobs to keep those jobs while we upgrade our performances. At the end of the day, human inspection is crucial in many of these AI deployments.

Being divinely inspired is something AI can never achieve. Creativity is our strong suit, and AI can only try to replicate that. As good as AI is now and will get in the future, there will forever be some distinction between human-inspired works and those generated by AI.

I am usually following the AI and robotics trends in their developments and applications. With every discovery, my fascination expands. In the long run, I would like many parts of my life to be smooooooooth with these technologies around me. Imagine walking to my house, and there are autonomous machines left, right, and center. And even with my jobs, too.

So can AI and robotics take on some jobs? Yeah, pretty much. And the number is increasing by the day. But aren't there many things achievable with AI already, and this really is only the beginning? For sure!

Honestly me as a crocheter, I don’t even think I’m scared of AI taking over my crafting because no matter how “technical” it gets it can’t actually see things from the brains of a crocheter.

I tried using AI to generate somethings for crochet inspiration and they were cute but lacked so much language

I can actually see robots doing crocheting, but will it ever be as creative and skillful as Abena? Nahhh

I remember when you tried to generate those images to no avail. Did you ever try again?

Yeah it came but I could do anything with them

Robots knitting? That’s something that can happen

Robots crocheting? I don’t actually see it

Wait. What's the difference between knitting and crocheting?

Knitting uses two needles
Crocheting uses just a hook

AI is making life smooth with technological developments. If we don't see it as threat to our jobs, don't you thing it's a threat to our mental abilities, creativity.

Oh, good question! I think that the more we try to leave creative thinking to AI, we may be hampering our creative abilities in one way or another. Its just like anything you do less with time—you don't really improve. What do you think?

I think the same bro this is my point if we depends on AI then there will be end of our own abilities. The more we practice our abilities the more we improve.

We're on the same page, then. Awesome, man.

Ai technology can only do so much and like you rightly said, it cannot recreate the intuition, creativity and high intelligence of the human brain.

No. You cannot reacreate that about us. Not in a very long time, at least. Thank you, Becky.

The world is moving faster with AI technologies and it is true that they can perform way faster than humans do, but in the aspect of being creatively inspired and showing empathy, give it to humans because these technologies cannot do it. Even though the introduction of these robot machines are causing people to lose their jobs, it is more better to augment ourselves with AI and that should be our focus.

If you wanted to make a mug, a beautiful one with a unique design, you would just follow your divinely inspired design and make it. Whereas, with AI and robotics, you would need to have trained it already or giving it a prompt to do so. We'll always be superior, but we can as well augment with AI.

We just have to work hand in hand with AI and robotics and we keep getting creative with stuff.

Hehe, the world is revolving and true AI has been able to help man carry out so many tasks faster than they could imagine, however, they can never be compared to humans in terms of emotions and creativity.

Emotions and creativity are what make us stand out as humans. Robotics can't replicate that. Thanks, Amie.
