How to Avoid Small Talk π IAAC #43
I Am Alive! π±
"So... that weather huh. It's pretty hot right. Yeah, your right." And then an intense silence followed with awkward starting in different directions. Each second mentally hurting more than the last. That's the agony of small talk and I'm certain we've all been there. But how do you avoid this?
Well, I'm no social expert, nor am I a psychologist, but here's what I do know about asking questions and answering them. If you intend of asking a question to start up a conversation, never ask a question that is yes or no, or requires a single word answer. Be sure to ask a question that requires an explanation of some sort. Once you get an answer don't just hop to the next question either. See if you can ask follow up questions. Be sure that you are genuinely interested though. Fake interest usually shows in your reactions and you will not be aware of it.
And then there's giving an answer when the question is on the opposite side of the conversation. I find that just being brutally honest can spark some genuine conversations. If someone asks you how you are doing, actually tell them exactly how you are doing. Tell them about that extra mortgage you have to take, or how your attention whore of a dog is stressing you out. They won't expect it, and if done right you will connect on a deeper level.
But of course if you don't like the person and don't want to talk to him/her, by all means give the short answer and walk away. π
The weather, that's funny, but when I call friends and family in the USA, I always remember to keep the conversation light, talking about weather and sports are two very safe subjects.
All depends on who you're talking to and where you want the conversation to go.
If you're talking to a sports fanatic, bringing it up might be a dangerous move though, if you're not prepared to lose 3 hours of your life. π
Yep I live with one of those and he could do it for all different kinds of subjects it's like it's a paragraph long to say two words but right information a lot of things to talk about that's for sure and in sports
Lol, I too live with someone like that. Explaining 2 sentences with multiple paragraphs is a gift in itself. But there is never a dull day. π
Ha. It is hard on me I just forget it anyways. Very nice giving with you.

tokens. It's similar to commenting on posts here on Hive... When someone comment: "Thanks", you have nothing valuable to reply, to start some conversation, and to engage...
But, when someone leave some meaningful comment, there is a lot more to reply and start a real discussion, and not rarely other people jump onboard...
Interesting topic for a blog... Thanks for starting a discussion :)

That's right. I haven't thought of it that way in terms of Hive interaction. It's the same with some IAAC (and other) posts who just post a picture thank "the lord" in a different way and all the comments thank the lord in return. π
The topics for my blogs are usually derived from something that happened to me for that day, or that I maybe came across somewhere. And then I just go with it. Glad you enjoy the inner workings of my brain.

tokens.Sure true yes that's okay but it's okay isn't it isn't it okay it better be okay sometimes it's nothing more to say because sometimes saying something they ruin everything but it's okay to say thanks anyway right
Lol that cartoon was awesome, I am not a test subject though, or at least not as far as I know π€ππ , on the other hand the weather can have a psychological effect on me, I prefer cold and dry weather, except in the summers when I prefer comfortable temperatures that allows me to have shorts an tshirt, cold and wet is very depressing, and if it's too hot then nothing gets done really, and I wish you your favorite weather for the next week.
Cold dry weather is actually my favorite kind of weather too, when I am on vacation. But that is just because I live in a hot humid climate, so it's kind of a grass greener on the other side situation.
We are possibly all test subjects living as it is in the movie 'the Matrix'. I can't prove it, but for that matter no one can disprove it either. π
So where is Zion?
If we believe the movie, it's deep towards the Earth's core, which would explain why we can't drill holes deeper than 12 km. Lol.
So that is why lol. ππ
I try to avoid any talk that lead to expose my person details otherwise I can talk and crack jokes.
If the personal details can lead to security breaches of accounts and so on, I can definitely understand that. We need to be careful and selective on what we share with certain people.
