Hi, Hivians!

Today is the happy 15th week of my initiative.

Last week we talked about luck. Surprisingly, very few people at Hive believe or count on luck. 🤪 Maybe we're all too serious here? 😅 Or maybe Hive is already a huge fluke in our lives! Either way, I have a lot to think about on this one. And I'll definitely come back to it again, but not today.

In my worldview, luck goes hand in hand with superstition for some reason. Perhaps because the most popular superstitions and omens of my land have to do with luck in one way or another. If a black cat crosses your path or salt scatters, something bad is bound to happen. (bad luck)

We have a lot of bad omens like that. And I know there are some in your country or in your land. I'm sure there are many interesting and unusual ones. I suggest you share the weirdest, most interesting or unusual ones in the comments!

What omens or superstitions do you recall and use yourself? Perhaps you have an interesting story on the subject?

As I said before, I'm not superstitious, but I do use some omens from time to time. Let's say I show my tongue to the mirror when I return home if I forgot something on the way out. That way, supposedly a bad luck that is supposed to happen won't happen.

I have also seen many times people catch up with a black cat when it has crossed their path. To cross that road backwards and nothing bad happens. 😜😅 I wonder if anyone has done this kind of research and calculated the workability of these theories? 🤪

I will, as always, end my thoughts at the end of this post. Now to business!

Today is the 15th round of my giveaway gratitude, and I'm glad so many people supported the idea and participated in my act of gratitude and gratuitous giving. In fact, I don't really know what or who will inspire me yet, myself. But from this day forward, I will be giving my thanks to one more participant on my own behalf! I think it will be interesting! So let's get started!

Goal

As I wrote in the first post Giveaway of Gratitude. 5 HSBI. CLOSED!, I give every day and want to take it to Hive! The purpose of this next giveaway is to give back to Hive and its members my share of appreciation and love! This is a gratuitous giveaway. That is, if the payout for this post is 5.01 Hive, I will give away 6 HSBI! The only thing I get is your love and part of the Hive SBI (that's how HSBI works).

What is HSBI

HSBI is a social experiment that has grown into something bigger. I have read many posts and other information about it. In my opinion, it is worthy of both Hive and this world in general! If you don't already know what HSBI (Hive SBI) is, read this post: Hive SBI

Why am I leaning specifically toward HSBI? Because this value that I give away also stays at Hive. It also shows my love for this blockchain and everyone involved!

As of late, I believe that anything works and benefits us. If we really believe in it.

A broken mirror will give you 7 years of bad luck in my country . It may come from the time when mirrors where real expensive stuff and it cost a fortune to replace the broken one. However, I frequently see people that really are a bit shocked if they damage a mirror.

Here in the Philippines superstitious belief is not new, because a lot of people especially old people believe in it. Even though there are a lot of people who believe in it some also don't believe because you know it doesn't have enough evidence to prove it. But for me, it's not bad to believe those HAHA since believing in those things will not cause you anything right? And perhaps it may be true 😅

I'm not superstitious at all. Also don't really have omens that I use except for 1:
When we order a drink, I'll always look into the eyes of the person with who I'm clinging our glasses with, because otherwise 7years of bad sex.

Do I really believe in it? No, it's more like a fun habit to me!! :)

Wow, thank you so much and congrats to the other winners too. With regards to superstition, my clime has many of it for instance the owl. It is an animal associated with bad luck. When it hoots in the night it signifies death. Even the sight of it close to one's house also signifies death.

Great work Alexandr, and not sure if it's used for superstition these days, but here in Sweden we say "prosit" after someone sneezes, supposedly in the old days it was believed to stop bad spirits from entering the body, these days I think it's just a social thing, enjoy your Sunday and stay !ALIVE

Personally, I do feel luck has a lot to do with how we progress in life. However, I am not superstitious at all.

Most events in life are influenced by many other events. Some of those events are completely random and others perhaps not. However, this does result in a degree of randomness in our interactions which many manifest sometimes a luck.

For example, I visited Rome which is somewhere I have not been regularly but by luck met my friend in the railway station. To me that was just pure luck. Not only we were in the same place at the same time but if I had walked by 30 seconds earlier, I would have never have seen him. What are the chances?

I have had a few of them - which does make you wonder if it really is chance or perhaps fate!

I met someone in Guatemala that I went to university with. I also met the same guy twice in Dubai on 2 separate visits - both by chance. With all of these chance meetings, I can't help feeling that not only was here a small chance of being in the same city but then exactly the same place at exactly the same time. Weird!

Like… don’t walk under a ladder against a house.

I don't really pay that much attention to omens so much, though there are two that come to mind, one locally here in Hawai'i, and one global. It is advised for visitors to Hawai'i to never take pieces of lava from the Islands back with them to their home locations, as quite unfortunate events tends to unfold in their lives when this is done. I've heard all sorts of very unpleasant stories around this. To me it is simply respecting the sanctity of the Islands. The other one that came to my mind is when we see 11:11 on the clock. It's supposed to be a positive nod from out greater aspects outside of time, space, and probabilities that we are on the right track. I always love when I see 11:11!

I'm always on the lookout for repeats. I believe that if something can happen, it can happen. if a thing happens twice, the warning sign goes on as it is imminent that it strikes a third time.

I do believe luck is a thing, because so many things are happenstance and chance, and people can have happy or unhappy accidents that weren't really a logical conclusion, it just lucked out (or not).
I don't really believe in any of the traditional superstitions I don't think, like it's bad luck to open an umbrella inside, or walk under a ladder. Generally superstitions tend to deal with bad luck, and I don't really believe they could cause it. I do sometimes do a thing for good luck, because it can't hurt! :) Like I will knock on wood sometimes when I want something to come true.

Oh friend, right now I'm without internet, just some mobile data, I feel very discouraged. I pray that this will be restored, while I have nothing left but to rest. Regarding the subject I am not very superstitious, only with some dreams like teeth that fall out and fish. And others that scare me a bit, I start to pray haha.Always with your interesting topics my beautiful friend.

Greetings to all. Hi @stdd, how time goes by, we are already in week 15, with each week the hivers benefited by your gratitude are increasing, wonderful, congratulations.
Congratulations to all the winners of this week.
Regarding the proposed theme for this meeting, I don't believe in superstitions. I think they are conceptualizations of popular culture, which are transmitted from generations to generations; sometimes with magical ideas, in others I do not visualize rationality.
In my country, Venezuela, superstitions also exist. I tell you an experience. My grandmother always lived in the countryside far from the city. During my study breaks, I spent some time with her and always observed a horse shoe adorned with ribbons on a wall. Driven by my curiosity I was eager to know, I asked and asked what the use was and always received the same answer "that's a good thing". One day my mother sat down and talked to me and told me that it was a protection against witches "they are afraid of horses and the objects they use". She was also kind enough to tell me that I should be very respectful to my grandmother, those were her thoughts. Very true, I don't believe in superstitions, but I respect your beliefs.
