Wednesday Walk to Salem Chapel and the Old Boathouse

avatar

We parked up and had a short walk across what is known locally as the Lavender Fields. I've lived in this village for over 40 years but never seen any lavender. I presume there was some years ago. The fields took us to Salem Methodist Chapel. It was built in 1849 by Joseph Fletcher against the wishes of the catholic Hunloke family who lived in Wingerworth Hall.

From the chapel, the dogs had a paddle in the old sheep dip. Well, Ms Labrador did. As always, Mr Lurcher refused to get his paws wet!

We then walked along the bridge at the side of Stubbing Pond which was built as an ornamental pond as well as a fishing pond by the Hunlokes. The little boathouse is a favourite with photographers.

We got back to the car and on the drive home I had to stop to entice three sheep back into their field. It always happens to me. Must be my animal magnetism. 😁
