Wednesday Walk around Lawrencefield Moor

avatar
(Edited)

Lawrencefield is the name of the moor that is situated behind a working area for an old quarry. We saw a small part of the quarry from the top of the hill, so we scrambled down the footpath and unexpectedly found ourselves in what looked like an enchanted wood.

The rock formation, the Gingerbread Slab is very popular with rock climbers. Great name!

Millstones were used to grind the grain (or whatever they used) in the mill. You see quite a few around here.

We spotted the odd fungi as well. It must get quite wet down there in bad weather, but today it was lovely and sunny and we were completely surrounded by silver birch trees.

I kept hearing a lot of splashing in the distance. I thought perhaps a labrador had jumped in the pool. It turned out to be a duck! What a racket. I can imagine it's mate shouting "stop bloody splashing"!

We stayed there for a couple of hours, but had to return to the car before we got a ticket. It was a gorgeous setting and one that I'm sure I will return to.

Yes I do hope that you return there cause that looks so intriguing and beautiful!

It looks like there would probably be a lot of historical artifacts undreneath all of the ferns and overgrowth.

Wouldn't it be cool if you found something there. What would you do with it if you did? What could you do? Do you have to report finding historical artifacts there?

When I first saw the duck I actually thought it was a couple of young boys!

Great tour and thanks for taking me there.

I look forward to the time when we can go back for more. 😀

Yes, I think I'd have to report it. I metal detect as well, although I wouldn't be allowed to do it here as there are a lot of rules and regulations. There will just be parts of the quarry there I think.

Yes, I watch Antique Roadshow when I get a chance (though mu favourite is escape to the country...) and I once saw a ring from the medieval era that a farmer found when he was churning the soil about to plant a new crop into a paddock that had never been used before.. I can't remember what they valued it at, pretty priceless I think, but I think I remember him saying that he had to report it...Shame...

Yes I imagine their riles and regulations everywhere over there...

I've never been that lucky. I tend to find nails and ring pulls! 😀

Sounds like just my luck too, but you never know, one day, it's just might be the one!

You can never give up- especially when you can multitask by using your metal detector to fund stuff, while taking photos for the wednesdaywalks, then uploading the amount of steps on to actifit! two Hive communities AND treasure hunting at the same time! 😃

You know what ... I don't know how I managed to fit in work. I seem to have gathered that many hobbies I don't know if I'm coming or going! I will consider the actifit thing though. 🙂

Well the benefit is with #actifit, you don't need to do anything extra cause you're already doing it!

Just download the app and before you go to bed, send the report in on the app and get up[voted for it.

Now that's what I call a win win win win...😀
