The Bark Walk
Hey! Good evening! Hope everyone´s fine at this time of the Pandemic!
My topic for my walk today are barks, yes barks of trees encountered during my walk adventure at the National Park. I am still editing my images taken the last weeks.... I might as well give you idea that in almost all of the swamps that I have visited, most have barks in and around the water. The function of these barks I supposed is to help water birds and other animals to land onto something hard when they get out of the water. The barks make me smile whenever I see them, it also gives protection to the animals or insects however small against predators.
This log had been sick and they had to cut it off , funnily it looks like a toilet in the old days.... Lol! I saw this while trekking to the Josefsteg.
These barks must have been so old, just have a look at the structure of its surface!
The pathways of the Park are well kept so that bikers, walkers, nordic-walkers, and runners would feel good surrounded by greens all over. This is really a recreational area for the locals to enjoy.
I have read that that there are about hundreds of thousands of trees that comprise the forest of the Donau-Auen National Park. When these tree are attacked by parasites, the Forest Management cut the trees and leave them either along the pathways or use them to break the flow of water in the swamps.
More and more swamps ran out of water particularly on hot summer days. But when snow melts, these barks are very helpful in slowing the flow of the water.
When it rains during consecutives days, these barks help a lot and could save domestic animals and birds and perhaps plants.
If ever you´re able to come to Vienna, do not forget to experience the Lobau, you can bike and could even reach all the way to the border of Slovakia which is around 38 kilometers from Vienna. The bike routes are well labelled and I am sure you will enjoy biking since you could enjoy seeing the greens contrasted with the blue skies when the sun shines.

Cool shots of the bark and that first one I did think of a toilet as well LOL
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
LOL, in German we call it a plumps Klo, in the early days those middle age castles have these type of toilet camouflage with a wooden bank... hehehe. Thanks and cheers!
Thats something i learnt today :)
How are you dear friend @mers good night
I loved your walk, you have chosen an excellent place to do it. many very beautiful photographs, I appreciate very much that you let us know
have a wonderful night
Oh, thanks for asking. I have been ok... the walk through the forest had been nice and I am sure I will walk again in the area... Maybe sometime soon when all the leaves become yellow. I hope you are safe in your country because pandemic is now getting worse in Europe.
Wow, that Looks like such a pretty place and I would love to go there and have a look one day myself.
Such a good idea to leave the logs around as they also make such great homes for so many animals and all kinds of vegetation too.
Wow so close to Slovakia on that pathway. Do you have to carry your passport when you're near there?
That's a question from someone who lives in a country that is not that much smaller than Europe and so far away from any other country...we fly for 6-7 hours and we're still flying over Australia before we even hit the ocean....
NO, it´s free to pass since both Slovakia and Austria are EU members, but there might be control guards when one crosses the border because of Covid. Slovakia is also worst hit by the pandemic.
I can see that it takes ages to fly from the east coast to the west. Australia is a big continent ... I have friends in Sydney and Melbourne... My husband had visited the Golden Coast while I was visiting my family in the Philippines. Such a nice country and hopefully those hit by the bushfire could recover soonest. My heart is sad to have seen those Koala victims... I saw them burned feet, poor animals so endangered. Thanks for a lovely comment, appreciate you visiting! Cheers!
Oh yes ofcourse. That must be so awesome to have that easy access from one country to another. It is so hard to imagine that being from here...Lol... but one day I will when I get there- with my passport ofcourse! 😂
Yes, such a terribel year for everyone everywhere but none more so than the 3+ billion animals that died in the fire (and most that you saw on the news burnt and injured died soon after even though they were being cared for...) and it' wasn't just the Koalas- the Kangaroos, Possums, Dingoes, Wallabies....and the list goes on....
So So Sooo sad, the poor things would have been in such terrible agonising pain- we could never, ever imagine that I don't think.
I look forward to seeing you again.
Take care and be safe.
