Wednesday Walk along Staro-Petergofsky Prospect

Today was a cold but sunny day. I had to run some errands to the Narva Gate, and I decided to replace the ride with a walk. I took pictures of what I saw on the way.

My walk started at Repin Square. The square is named after the Russian painter Ilya Repin, one of the houses housed the artist's studio. At the corner of the square is a verst pole (distance pole), this is one of the poles installed from 1777 to 1787 along the Peterhof road.

On one of the facets of the obelisk there is a sundial. The sundial was moved not very carefully during the repair of the square, and now you can not tell the time by the sundial.

I'm going to cross the Old Kalinkin Bridge. But first I stop at the Fontanka embankment to take some photos of seagulls. The sign reads: "Danger Zone! Passage is forbidden!". The embankment in this place has suffered from wave impacts and needs to be repaired.

The Old Kalinkin Bridge gets its name from the Kalinkin Village, which was located there before the founding of the city. At first it was just Kalinkin Bridge, the clarification "Old" was added in 1873, when another Kalinkin bridge, the New Kalinkin Bridge over the Obvodny Canal, was built. This new bridge I will also need to cross today.

There are beautiful lanterns on the bridge, and I stopped to take a close-up picture of one of them. At that moment I noticed that there is another lantern nearby, not as graceful, but no less industrious.

I photograph a perspective of the Fontanka River, but today I have to move in a different direction. I turn onto a non-broad street filled with cars.

I gradually move away from the central part of the city. At first glance, nothing changes, the surroundings are still the same old pre-revolutionary buildings. But the buildings are less homogeneous, you get Constructivism and Neoclassicism. For example, this yellow building, which stretches along the avenue, was built in 1958 and belongs to the representatives of the Neoclassicism style. But the apartment building on the corner was built in the second half of the 19th century, it is a typical eclecticism.

I reached the New Kalinkin Bridge over the Obvodny Canal. For some unknown reason it is one of the most popular places for feeding city birds. This bridge is also decorated with lanterns.

Behind the bridge I turn right and continue through the garden. Our spring is just beginning its journey, no leaves on the trees or flowers in the flowerbeds yet. Nevertheless, it's a nice end to the walk. After all, it's much more pleasant to walk through a garden than on a busy thoroughfare.
