WednesdayWalk along Novo-Isaakievskaya Street
This street is called Yakubovich Street now, in memory of Decembrist Alexander Yakubovich. The street got its name in 1923, but earlier this street was called differently. Look at what the perspective of this street:
The domes of St. Isaac's Cathedral can be seen in front. This street is small and quiet, but the architectural dominance of St. Isaac's Cathedral makes it more grand, more solemn.
In the 18th and 19th centuries the street changed its name a little, but it was always about St. Isaac's Cathedral: Novo-Isaac's Street, Bolshaya Isaac's Street, Novaya Isaac's Street.
The main purpose of my walk was to try to take a picture of the yard of the building of the Lifeguard of the Horse Regiment's barracks (it's a long yellow building on the left in the street perspective photo) to compare it with an old photo of the same place. The yard was closed and inaccessible, but I took many other pictures.
Refrigerated boxes under window sills were very common a few decades ago. Now this way of storing food is disappearing. Boxes are dismantled during repairs, when the owners put plastic window frames. But in this courtyard, I saw several old refrigerated boxes at once.
The cafe works to order: you can pick up ready-made dishes yourself or order delivery. But they have already allowed to open summer verandas, many cafes are now busy decorating and preparing.
What you absolutely do not expect to meet in St. Petersburg's yard is a lighthouse. But I liked the idea.
It's a Catcafé. Cats are everywhere: sculptures and drawings. And in the form of resting cats behind glass. The ad asks not to knock and not to wake.
So this short street ended, we went out to St. Isaac's Cathedral.
This is my entry for the #wednesdaywalk challenge by @tattoodjay and for the Make me Smile challenge by @elizacheng.
We have similar streets here in Kharkiv, for a while I thought maybe it's Kharkiv city because it's so similar... Then I googled it and came to know about this historic street...
Thanks for sharing this beautiful street information with us...
My friends told me that in Kharkov you can see similar streets. But I was in Kharkov only once, passing through, and saw only the outskirts of the city.
