A Challenging Yet Beautiful Walk to Sitio Sayasay, Buhawen San Marcelino, Zambales
One of the most unforgettable experiences that we had was our long walk to Sitios Sayasay in Buhawen, San Marcelino, Zambales. It was not just an ordinary walk because it became a journey filled with challenges, realizations, and appreciation for the beauty of nature and the lives of the people living in the mountains. The place is known as one of the homes of our Aeta learners, and visiting the area made us better understand the struggles they face every day just to go to school and continue their education.

Our journey started early in the morning. We prepared ourselves physically and mentally because we already knew that the walk would not be easy. The road going to Sitios Sayasay is mountainous, rocky, and surrounded by forests. At first, we were all excited and energetic as we walked together. The fresh air and the peaceful surroundings gave us a wonderful feeling.

However, as we continued our walk, we slowly felt the difficulty of the journey. Since the place is in the mountains, we encountered many “bar downs,” or steep downhill paths. Some parts of the road were slippery and uneven, making it hard for us to balance as we walked. There were moments when we needed to carefully step on rocks and narrow pathways just to avoid falling. The long walk also tested our endurance because the trail seemed endless. We grew tired, sweaty, and thirsty, but we kept encouraging one another to keep going.

While climbing and walking through the mountains, I could not stop thinking about our Aeta learners who travel this path regularly just to attend school. Imagining young children walking these challenging roads every day touched my heart deeply. Despite the hardships, they remain determined to study and dream of a better future. Their perseverance and dedication inspired me so much. It made me realize how fortunate many of us are to have easier access to education. Seeing their situation reminded us teachers, to be more patient, understanding, and committed to helping them achieve their dreams.

Although the journey was exhausting, the beautiful scenery around us made everything worthwhile. Everywhere we looked, we could see breathtaking views of green mountains, tall trees, and wide open skies. The fresh mountain breeze gave us comfort whenever we felt tired. We also saw small rivers and natural landscapes that looked so peaceful and untouched. The beauty of nature in Sitios Sayasay was truly relaxing and refreshing for the soul.

One of the most memorable parts of our walk was seeing how simple yet meaningful life is in the mountains. The Aeta families' houses were simple, but they welcomed us with warm smiles and kindness. Despite living far from the city and facing many hardships, they still showed happiness and contentment. Their humility and hospitality touched our hearts deeply. We realized that true happiness does not always come from material things but from love, family, unity, and gratitude.

As we continued exploring the area, we also appreciated the Aeta community's strong connection to nature. They live peacefully with the environment and value the resources around them. Their lifestyle reflects simplicity and resilience. Spending time in Sitios Sayasay taught us many life lessons that cannot simply be learned inside a classroom.
The long walk also became a bonding moment for all of us. Along the way, we shared stories, laughter, and encouragement with one another. Even though we were physically tired, our hearts were filled with joy from the meaningful experience we shared together. Every challenge on the road became lighter because we helped and motivated each other.

When we finally reached our destination, we felt a mixture of relief, fulfillment, and happiness. The journey may have been difficult, but it became one of the most memorable adventures of our lives. It allowed us to witness not only the beauty of nature but also the strength and determination of our Aeta learners and their families.

Our walk to Sitios Sayasay taught us valuable lessons about perseverance, gratitude, and compassion. It reminded us that education is truly precious, especially for children who need to overcome mountains and long distances just to learn. It also opened our hearts to appreciate the beauty of simple living and the wonders of nature surrounding us.

Indeed, our challenging walk to Sitios Sayasay in Buhawen, San Marcelino, Zambales was more than just a physical journey. It became a journey of understanding, appreciation, and inspiration that will forever remain in our hearts.
