The Dawn Of A New Day ..

I've Always Had This Fascination With The Sky ..

Just ask my wife and she'll tell you. She once tried to curb my developing addiction to the Doppler radar, speaking endlessly about cloud formations, the direction of cloud movement, height and distance.. well you get the point. I realized that maybe I was overdoing it a little, but that didn't stop me. I still would ponder these things, but was vocalizing it much less to 'Certain Individuals' .. hahaha. So be it, I like the sky. She can't deny she likes it either. On occasion I get a text of the beautiful sunsets from her, if I am still stuck at work on late hours. Who doesn't like a colorful sunset or sunrise? Not many. A good colorful sunset or sunrise can wash away the previous days worries and help inspire a new day filled with new hope. For me and my wife, it's inspiring at the least!

So How Do I Utilize This Inspiration? ..

I apply it to my creations of course! I love to create sky paintings and they are by far my favorite pieces to make. I feel so much less restricted when painting skies. They are forgiving, and like fingerprints, one of a kind. Today I thought I could use a new beginning; a new dawn to a new day. I wanted to share a piece that I made a while back, and @midlet's community OCA (On Chain Art) gives me the perfect platform to re-work and re-share an old post from March 14, 2018. I was still pretty green to the old blogging thing at that point. So I hope that you enjoy this tweaked post and can appreciate the meaning behind it. I hope it helps to wash away your worries and anxiety, giving you a new beginning to a great day.

How Did I End Up With The Painting ..

I started off with a rather long piece of hardboard, which I sealed with a gesso primer. This ensured that the paint wouldn't dry out before I was done working on it, and to keep the colors from bleeding into the wood. Right from the start I felt like the piece was awkwardly long. When all was said and finished, I did end up trimming or cropping it. I'll save that story for another post. I applied a dark base paint and blended the bright orange-reds in from there. I lightly applied black paint under the clouds to help define where I wanted the land to be.

I was utilizing my finger tips quite a bit when applying the paint to the surface, throughout the entire process. They work awesome for blending and applying light dabs in random patterns, such as is seen in cloud formations. When this photo was taken, the clouds were becoming more real to me and the land was starting to really take shape. I could visualize what I wanted the foreground to look like.

As you may notice, at the bottom of the painting, I like to use scrap pieces of glass as paint palettes. This piece was from a small frame, but very thick and the edges were ground down.. no sharp edges! It's small enough to hold in my hand and set anywhere.

Now that the sky is looking good and a few highlights are laid down, I move my focus to the land. I was looking for a back bay or marsh feel. Of course when the sun is coming up over the horizon, it can be very hard to make out any colors or definition. So it was only right to make the entire foreground a silhouette. I used only black paint when creating these areas. I used color only for the areas that I wanted to look like water. Reflections of bright color.. reflections of what was good yesterday, bleeding into the new day.

I went crazy with the color (for my taste and my style) filling in additional blues in the sky, pops of magenta highlighted with white in the clouds, and of course the bright whites where the sun would be shinning over the horizon. I was trying to give the illusion of the suns bright light. Not too bad for an amateur if I say so myself. I added my signature to the bottom right and called it finished... or so I thought. That length was still bothering me. I placed my palette over the section I wanted to remove. It looked good to me, so I cut that section off! It felt and looked soooo much better to me. aaahhhh.. I was relieved. hehe

I was left with this.. The final painting, 'The Dawn Of A New Day'.

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

“Here I came to the very edge

where nothing at all needs saying,
everything is absorbed through weather and the sea,
and the moon swam back,
its rays all silvered,
and time and again the darkness would be broken
by the crash of a wave,
and every day on the balcony of the sea,
wings open, fire is born,
and everything is blue again like morning. ”

I think you have combined so good all the colors, but the light in the center of the pic, it's the best detail. So good!
