Hello little Hivers, today I want to share with you this exercise that has helped me a lot to let loose my hand when making drawings with poses.

With this practice you will be able:

  • Exercise and sharpen your observation skills
  • Display proportion and composition
  • Looseness of hand and stroke
  • Mental warmth of form and image retention.
  • And many more things that even if you are not aware of them believe me, you are making it grow and be better every time you practice with constancy.

When we practice, we don't just draw. We are exercising and nurturing our visual baggage. How much you can or cannot draw depends on 70% of your knowledge, that is, how many images you have seen and the techniques you have learned. Everything is stored in your mental library.

And the more you learn to observe, the more you learn how to draw, how to make each shape, how to solve problems, etc. And it all starts from understanding the why of things, every rise, every fall, every light, and every shadow. Everything has a meaning and a reason for being. The other 30% is the exercise you give your hand to control pressure, pulse, coordination, ease, shape, etc.

So let's go to the exercise.

In this activity you should make 100 sketches, each one should not take more than 5 or 10 minutes and everything will be in a period of 3 days.

I met this exercise by carmonela she is a great illustrator and her main theme is monstrous, so her exercises were about inventing 100 monstrous in 3 days.

I tried to follow the same rhythm of work, but I didn't want to draw monstrous or anything from my imagination. *I wanted to do more practice poses using photography as a reference. At Pinterest I have many portfolios of images that inspire me a lot, whether it be illustration, sculpture, video, or photos. One of those folders is called "photos to draw" which are basically photos of people in poses that make me want to draw them in my style.

I always say that someday I'll draw them but for some reason, I don't and those photos keep accumulating and falling behind. This time I put my hands to work since it's easier for me to take those of my imagination than to copy them from somewhere. As I said before, in this exercise you're going to practice observation and that requires more time, so I decided to take it easy and do those 100 sketches in 5 or 7 days (because of my work and other occupations) since I had started with the goal of having 3 but I was getting frustrated of not being able to advance as fast as I thought.

To do this exercise I recommend that you be realistic with your drawing skills. Whether you want to do it just by drawing from your imagination like carmonela or you want to practice with photo references like me. Also, commit yourself to do it and finish it, it's important to always finish what we started because they are personal mini achievements that generate satisfaction and motivation for whatever comes.

Don't give up!

At the end of the activity. If you were constant and did it in time and form believe me you will see many changes and improvements. This will also help you get to know yourself better in the drawing and know what you like to do and what you don't, how you like to do things or details and in turn, this goes hand in hand with a blissful search for style. Finally, remember that they are only sketches and that they should not take you long.

So let's get to work.

If you accept the challenge, I would love to see your exercises and if possible share a post with your entries. We'll read about it in the next post, have a great day of sketching.

It is not necessary to do it digitally, you can do it with a sheet and pencil or some other drawing tool.

I still have to make 40 more sketches to make on a next post I will share them.

¡No te rindas!

Thank you! And of course! I am interested in working on new projects.

I see that you work on the art of @exodegame, that's amazing. My husband @eddiespino has played that game.

I was hired to work on illustrations also for an NFT game that will be launched on another blockchain, it may be available in September. I made 28 illustrations on my style.

this is amazing. I myself am doing something similar to this. i draw about three to four mini portraits a day. 100 drawings in 3 days would be too much for me, might get too exhausted with it.... your drawings look so amazing
