INKTOBER #13 DUNE

avatar

Everyday art does not stop, this time I will interpret the word dune corresponding to Inktober's proposal #13. Presenting a deadly snake that travels in these sand accumulations where it is totally comfortable, because although you may not believe it, the desert sand is soft and moldable to the touch.

These sand dunes produced by the changes in the wind move, advance, unite and grow, in an infinite dance performed across the deserts of the world, causing the animals that live in these areas to possess sporadic homes and to be blown away by the wind day by day.

Materials:

  • Opaline Cardboard (A4)
  • HB Graphite Pencil
  • Black Ballpoint Pen
  • Black marker, fine tip

-Sketch:

With a cross in the middle of the sheet of paper I started the illustration, placing the dog right in the middle to have my work space balanced.

-Outline:

Taking as a guide the lines of the sketch, I outlined the entire silhouette, trying to make the strokes as fluid as possible, because if I stopped for a few moments the pen would spill ink.

-Ink filling:

Based on the sketch made with the pencil, I shaped the snake through hundreds of points, working among many layers of points, covering the blank spaces progressively and seeking to achieve volume.

-Final Touches:

I tried to make the scale patterns as best I could, this in order not to have a very boring snake skin, the total artwork took an average of about 2.5 hours, because every time I felt a little more depth in the illustration, I added a new layer of stitches, resulting in the application of thousands and thousands of stitches in a small paper space.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

¿What is Inktober??

The Inktober is an initiative created by illustrator Jake Parker in 2009, with the aim of improving his artistic skills, but over the years has had a great impact on the international art community. The challenge is to make an ink drawing every day, hence its name, "ink" "tober" (October), although for the most part this is respected, many other artists prefer to stay in their comfort zone, so you can see illustrations made with watercolors, graphite, charcoal, digital and any existing technique.
