INKTOBER DAY #3 BULKY

avatar
(Edited)

It's only the third day of Inktober and I almost missed it ( screams internally D: ) Yesterday I went for a walk in the mountains with my friends and I lost track of time, besides arriving very tired and just thinking one thing, "I want to sleep", it was a 27 km journey, but I loved it. It is important to do sport and distract the mind at least for a few hours, stay healthy guys.

Going back to the Inktober, the theme for today is "Bulky", but my first idea was not this big caveman, no, I was working a bit on a huge turtle, bigger than the trees around it, but I didn't really like how it was turning out, since I used my liquid ink and it's easier to make a mess if you don't have your brush controlled. So, I took another sheet of paper and re-imagined the subject, giving it a nice touch in the process.

Materials:

  • Opaline Cardboard (A4)
  • HB Graphite Pencil
  • Black Ballpoint Pen
  • Black marker, fine tip

-Sketch:

I started with the HB pencil, molding my idea with very soft strokes.

-Outline:

Then, delineate the whole illustration taking as a guide the lines of the sketch.

-Ink filling

With the black marker, I filled the background with the most solid black tone I could make. I thought about using the liquid ink for this, but I did not want to make a mistake and ruin the illustration.

-Final Touches:

Finally the last details arrive, using the black pen, I added a little bit of pointillism, but nothing too overloaded, my intention was to make the caveman the point of attention, so I had to contrast directly with the dark background. With the help of Photoshop, I improved the illumination of the image and I tried to give even more enhancement to the character, as if it was a Sticker.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

¿What is Inktober??

The Inktober is an initiative created by illustrator Jake Parker in 2009, with the aim of improving his artistic skills, but over the years has had a great impact on the international art community. The challenge is to make an ink drawing every day, hence its name, "ink" "tober" (October), although for the most part this is respected, many other artists prefer to stay in their comfort zone, so you can see illustrations made with watercolors, graphite, charcoal, digital and any existing technique.
