Capitol Building, Austin, Texas. - Oil on canvas 30" x 40"

This piece was commissioned by my cousin who is a doctor down in Texas. I went down there to visit, and to avoid traffic I went early in the morning to take my reference photo. This painting is oil on canvas, 30in x 40in (3/4m x 1m) and is currently hanging in his office along with a few other of my paintings.

A little bit about the history of this building:

The Texas State Capitol Building was completed on March 2, 1885, which is Texas Independence Day. and opened to the public April 21, 1888. An interesting fact about the land:

Construction of the Italian Renaissance Revival–style capitol was funded by an article of the state constitution, adopted on February 15, 1876, which authorized the sale of public lands for the purpose. In one of the largest barter transactions of recorded history, the builders of the capitol John V. Farwell and Charles B. Farwell), known as the Capitol Syndicate, were paid with more than three million acres (12,000 km²) of public land in the Texas Panhandle; this tract later became the largest cattle ranch in the world, the XIT Ranch.

I like the idea of adding my thoughts, ideas or a little bit of history into my pieces, and putting them onto places like HIVE.
