Sick of Being HUMAN? Let's Transform into CATS! It's Just "A WHISKER AWAY" (my review/reaction)

It's anime time again and today I'm going to tell you about an animated film entitled, "A Whisker Away". I finally got to watch it last night and I'm giddy to share about it with you today.

Were there times when you got so fed up with your life that you just want to escape in another dimension? Well, not the point of no return, but just become something else entirely. This movie is somehow about such situation. Let's take a peek of the trailer below.

The story is about a girl named Muge who transformed into a cat in order to be closer to the boy she likes. At school, she is the girl hyperactive girl who always seeks the attention of the boy she likes. Hinode, the apple of her eyes, is a simple guy who wants to become a potter just like his grandfather. At school, he ignores her and barely even talks to her.

It all started during the summer festival. In the evening of the summer festival, Muge met a half-cat, half-human mask seller. She bought a cat mask from him. That mask allows her to transform into a cat anytime she wants. She sort of had some family problems, so being able to transform into a cat helps her escape even for a while.

Hinode, at that time, skipped his cram school because he just got fed up with all the pressure he has in life. He found "Taro", the cat form of Muge. He cuddled her and told her all his frustrations and dreams. That moment, Muge developed her feelings for him even more.

When school finally started, Muge transforms into Taro every night and visits Hinode. It was her happy time. She enjoys spending time with him even as a cat. She discovers more of him and got to witness how hard the boy tries and does his best in everything. Well, she somehow became an outlet for him, both good and bad. She was his support system... until it got to the point when she wanted to support him as Muge (her human form).

One day at school, she overheard some guys backbiting Hinode which really pissed her off. She jumped of the school building and told off the guys. It was chaotic, but it made her feel closer to him. That day triggered her to finally confess and finally put all her feelings into a letter. That day, too, Hinode somehow thought that Muge reminds him so much of Taro.

An unfortunate thing happened both at school and at her home which made Muge decide to give up her human form and become Taro for the rest of her life. However, when her human form was missing, she realized how the people around her value her. On the contrary, those people realized how important Muge's existence was to them. But... it was too late, or was it? It's for you to find out the rest of the story. :)

It's quite unfortunate because even in real life we tend to disregard someone's value. We only realize how important they are to us when they're already gone. I think this isn't only applicable to people but also to a lot of things. For example, this pandemic made us realize a lot of things.

Let's say, "the sunrise/sunset. Before the pandemic, we have this thought of wanting to watch the sunrise or sunset but we also think that we can just do it anytime we want. However, when the pandemic came and we were on lockdown. We couldn't get out from our house, thus we lose the opportunity to witness the sunrise/sunset. And the next time we saw it, it became more valuable for us.

"Leave no regrets" is what I believe. And somehow through this movie, my belief was strengthened. In life, we do things that are crazy in order to achieve something we want. The process may be painful, but the result is what we have always dreamed of. So oftentimes, even if risks are involved, we swallow everything and just do it.

On the other hand, sometimes, we also need to be wary of the consequences. We are too impulsive in making a decision which makes us regret later in the day. It might be tough, but a balance should be there. I always say this, "It's just difficult, but never impossible". I want to continue living that way as much as I can. :)

This movie might just be a simple love story, but if you dig deeper, you'll see a bigger picture. <3 I recommend you guys watch it! It's worth your time. ^^

I want to watch this movie since it came out, but I don't make the time to do it. I liked how you explain the anime and then talk about what it made you feel, your emotions and thoughts. I agree with you, that we live our life with no regrets.

It was in one of the recommended movies in my Netflix account and although I can say I am more of a dog person than a cat person but I enjoyed it.

It was beautifully rendered the story while light it had a great theme about realization and going for your dreams and desire.

Often we are afraid of that first step.

I love the cat town and all its citizens.
