AnoHana, the anime that tries to teach what it is like to overcome the loss of a loved one
Good morning, afternoon or evening, dear friends. Today I come to share with you a little piece of me, a series that marked me at the time and for which I am very grateful. I think I remember that I was recommended by my cousin without giving me any context about what it was about, for me it was a complete trap, I don't know if I was very emotional that day but what I do know is that I cried almost every episode, something that I considered very crazy. I think it is something that I consider unrepeatable and in one go, by giving it a second look, nothing happened again. But well, today we are going to talk about Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae or Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai or AnoHana for the pals.
Buenos días, tardes o noches, queridos amigos. Hoy les vengo a compartir un pedacito de mí, una serie que me llegó a marcar en su momento y a la que le tengo mucho aprecio. Creo recordar que se me fue recomendada por mi primo sin darme contexto alguno sobre qué trataba, para mi persona fue una completa trampa, no sé si aquel día me encontraba muy emocional pero lo que sí sé es que lloré casi todos los episodios, algo que yo mismo consideré loquísimo. Creo que es algo que considero irrepetible y de una sola vez, al echarle una segunda vista no volvió a ocurrir nada. Pero bueno, hoy vamos a hablar de Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai o AnoHana para los compas.
AnoHana tells us the story of Jinta, a Hikikomori who spends his days locked up in his house playing video games until one day he begins to see the ghost of his dead childhood friend Menma. At first he will think it is a heat hallucination but little by little he will realize that it is not, so he will look for a way to fulfill her wish (a wish she herself does not know) to make her rest in peace, to fulfill this objective he will have to reunite his gang of childhood friends, which will not be an easy task since all of them experience in some way traumas from Menma's death.
AnoHana nos cuenta de historia de Jinta, un hikikomori que se la pasa encerrado en su casa jugando videojuegos hasta que un día comienza a ver el fantasma de su amiga de la infancia muerta Menma, éste al principio creerá que es una alucinación por el calor pero poco a poco se dará cuenta de que no es así, así que buscará la forma de cumplirle su deseo (deseo que ella misma desconoce) para hacer que descanse en paz, para cumplir dicho objetivo tendrá que reunir a su pandilla de amigos de la infancia, lo cuál no será tarea fácil ya que todos experimentan de cierta forma traumas por la muerte de Menma.
The plot is developed in a way that will show us problems and conflicts between the characters giving free rein to the characters to show the worst of themselves, how bad people and selfish they are. Everyone has their own feelings about Menma, some like envy and others like jealousy for not being reciprocated. This series is about how to overcome the death of a loved one who has left things pending in this world, about how to face all this and turn the page, seeing themselves reflected on screen the traumas of the childhood of the protagonist group and how they overcome it until they return to being that gang they formed when they were young.
La trama se desarrolla de manera que nos mostrarán problemas y conflictos entre los personajes dando rienda suelta a que éstos muestren lo peor de sí, lo malas personas y egoístas que son. Cada uno tiene sus propios sentimientos acerca de Menma, algunos como la envidia o otros como los celos por no ser correspondido. Esta serie trata sobre cómo superar la muerte de un ser querido que ha dejado cosas pendientes en este mundo, sobre cómo afrontar todo esto y pasar página, viéndose reflejados así en pantalla los traumas de la niñez del grupo protagonista y cómo ellos lo van superando hasta volver a ser aquella pandilla que formaban de jóvenes.
The only flaw you might find is that in some characters the traumas feel forced or that the writers forgot to put one in at the beginning and left it for the last so they had to do it in a hurry. An example of this is Poppo's character, who at the beginning is not affected in the least and does not seem to have a trauma or feeling of guilt, it is until almost the end that he is reflected. Something to bear in mind is that Menma's character is idealized in every way, and this clashes with the other characters that show the miserable people they are.
La única pega que podría encontrar es que en algunos personajes los traumas se sienten forzados o que los guionistas olvidaron colocarle uno al principio y lo dejaron para lo último por lo que tuvieron que hacerlo a las prisas, un ejemplo de esto es el personaje de Poppo, que al principio no se ve afectado en lo más mínimo y no parece poseer un trauma o sentimiento de culpa, es hasta casi finalizar que se le ve reflejado. Algo a tener en cuenta también es que al personaje de Menma se le hace una especie de idealización, siendo perfecto en todos los sentidos, choca mucho con los demás personajes que muestran las miserables personas que son.
The characters are perhaps without doubt one of the strengths of the series, each with a marked or easily recognizable character. Some may be more fond of some than others depending on your morality and your way of thinking if what he does or came to do is merely justifiable. Proof of this was when I recommended the series to a friend, where immediately after an event she gets a hold of the hatred for the actions that the character in question provides, and a moment later she understood why he was doing what he was doing and came to justify it. The cast of the main characters I find them quite well used, they are perfect to cause the drama and conflicts that occur in the series.
Los personajes son quizás sin dudarlo uno de los puntos fuertes de la serie, cada uno con un carácter marcado o fácilmente reconocible. Algunos podrás tomarle más cariño que a otros dependiendo de tu moralidad y tu forma de pensar si sobre lo que hace o llegó a hacer es meramente justificable. Una prueba de esto fue cuando le recomendé la serie a una amiga, donde inmediatamente después de un suceso ella le agarra odio a las acciones que el personaje en cuestión provee, momento después entendió el por qué hacía lo que hacía y llegó a justificarle. El elenco de los personajes principales les encuentro bastante bien empleados, son perfectos para ocasionar el drama y los conflictos que ocurren en la serie.
One choice that stands out too much is the excellent choice and combination of the Opening and Ending that was made for this work. They are sublime, they manage to describe and transmit the feelings of the whole series with their lyrics but the one that stands out the most from both is the Ending, I have it as one of my favorites and every time I listen to it it produces a feeling of nostalgia. The other part of the soundtrack is quite normal, using the classic piano and guitar to produce melancholy, thus representing the scenes of drama, so the other themes do not stand out and are totally overshadowed.
Una elección a destacar en demasía es la excelente elección y combinación del Opening y Ending que se hizo para esta obra. Son sublimes, llegan a describir y transmitir los sentimientos de toda la serie con sus letras pero el que más sobresale de los dos es el Ending, lo tengo como uno de mis favoritos y cada vez que lo escucho me produce una sensación de nostalgia. La otra parte de la banda sonora es bastante normal, usando los clásicos piano y guitarra para producir melancolía, representando así las escenas de drama, así que los otros temas no resaltan y se ven totalmente opacados.
In conclusion, AnoHana is a good drama if you come to omit some of the few flaws it has, it has a quite well done and remarkable animation, there is no need to mention what I said in the previous section, the opening and ending are something masterful and that add quite a few points to the play. The plot develops decently for the few chapters it has (11), the themes they touch are really strong and interesting, some characters are more endearing than others and to finish I recommend you to watch it, maybe you like it, maybe not, this is one of my favorite anime. En conclusión, AnoHana es un buen drama si se llega a omitir algunas de las pocas fallas que tiene, cuenta con una animación bastante bien hecha y destacable, no hará falta mencionar lo que ya dije en el apartado anterior, el opening y ending son algo magistral y que le suman bastantes puntos a la obra. La trama se desarrolla decentemente para los pocos capítulos que tiene (11), los temas que tocan son realmente fuertes e interesantes, algunos personajes son más entrañables que otros y para finalizar te recomiendo verlo, quizás te guste, quizás no, este es uno de mis animes favoritos.
