Sketching and Painting Dogs for continued series

2 Labs happily sketched for a new piece in my animal in chairs series.

The two showed up in my sketchbook so I went with it. I've been toying with a few things so far this year, it being almost the end of January, including a series I was doing for #nft which I've actually set aside for now. I've 2 or 3 sketched out but getting to the animating bit keeps getting pushed down my "to do" list in the studio.

I love to play with color so reality is not foremost in my mind when I begin adding color to my sketches. I think These two will be a black lab (black read here as purple green and blue) and a chocolate lab.

Here in Titian reddish oranges.

I think I might add a yellow lab to this duo making a trio, before I give them a chair or chaise upon which to set.

a bit of ochre and green pastel chalk to give me a cue to colors I might use for background and the Chair's fabric

I really love, once a sketch is digital , to play with pop art ways of trying out color.

This gives me hints and ideas for how to use this piece later on journal covers or repeats in wallpapers or wrapping papers. I just love to take a classic sketch and give it Pop sensibilities.

Of course I do Love a Gif

I think I need to return to my old standard of animals in chairs. It was a popular series and I loved the feeling of purpose each day gave when I was in the depths of it. Knowing the periameters of the day yet the freedom of

"What animal shall I choose today, what lovely bit of furniture shall be featured, what is the color story?"

This combination of clearly defined goal mixed with the open ended possibility of imagination has always been successful for me in the studio. Thus, when I began to consider all options for new ways of doing things this year, the foremost goal was joy and passion but mingled with the comfort of routine.

Often if we look to hard for change in the future for happiness, we miss the joy to be found in patterns of the past

And I think that is why, for now, the idea of a return to animals in chairs just makes me smile and feel more productive AND more excited to face the studio each day.

I hope you enjoy this pair, who are just in their infancy at this point, and look forward to see what I do with them, If they get any chums, and what they shall be sitting upon.

I do know some of this desire for a return to animals in chairs, particularly dogs in chairs , which I think I shall be starting with, is my own desire to have dogs again. I SO miss my darling pups and our sweet cat. It's been almost 2 years now since our last dear dog passed after 20 years of joyful companionship.

Perhaps in painting more dog breeds I'll land on the perfect new Friend for my future
I know this series has certainly helped me with my 'chair addiciton' and happily I was able to draw some lovely things that I did not have to spend a dime nor which to clutter up our rooms.

I hope you all have a lovely day, find a moment of joy and get to practice whatever passion you are after; and remember to Stay creative!

I really think I could fall in love with these two. The tones you give them shape their personality, although I have to admit, I prejudged the chocolate lab to be the more senior of the two.

I am taking you home with me so I can take a peek at them as I work. Thank you for the lovely edition to your collection! I hope you have a most fabulous day!

Thank you so much @dswigle and I'm glad my little sketchings made you smile :) I'm thinking they need a companion so later today in the studio I think a golden shall be joining them. Then the fun bit, picking out their furniture haha.

I hope you have a joyous and creative day!
