Day 1377: 5 Minute Freewrite Prompt : The Power of Movies.

It’s been almost 15 years since I saw him.
15 years of no contact and today I see him again, my Cousin Brother.
An year of gap between us, and yet we were as thick as thieves.
We did everything together. He was my partner in crime and my best friend growing up.
While he teased me and always came up with new ways to humiliate me, he also thought me all that he knew.

In his own way he cared for me.

Then we parted ways and our daily lives and the then still-developing technology did not help us keep our bond. Years grew apart and with time we grew distant.

Finally I see him and he has changed so much.
He turned out taller and bigger than me which is a super contrast of how we used to be when little.
He has gotten so much better looking and now I know why my aunt says that a lot of girls had a crush on him in school. He changed his hairstyle and even his accent.

The only thing that hadn’t changed was his charming and sparkling smile.

I waved back at him. Slowly we walked towards each other and then awkwardly shook hands.
I could see my mom and my aunt yelling, screaming, laughing and hugging and I thought ‘Damn! Why is things so awkward between us when mom and her sister got along so well’.

The ride back home was more awkward with us asking random stranger questions like “How have you been?” ; “How was School?” ; “Do you remember the neighbour?” ; “Isn’t the weather nice today?”…

Finally a question flashed in my head “Did you see the new Avengers Movie?”.
That’s when I found back my old child hood bestie.
It was like a flip of a switch and we just warped ourself back into time.
We smiled, laughed and even teared up a little as we spoke about the movie and then started comparing our favourite movies, actors and movie scenes.

It was like time was running at a different speed. We never realised when the 30 kms ride through the city traffic was done.
“Come on I have to show you all my old stuff”, I said as I pulled him out of the car and towards my house.
“Lady you might as well rip off my hand from your gorilla strength”, he yelled back struggling from my grasp.

Unknown to us both my mom and my aunt exchanged silent smiles before going us inside.

This is so beautiful ... the more things change, the more they remain the same, but in a good way!
