The Talent

(Edited)

I looked at the skyline from my upper eastside New York condominium and remembered my high school career counselor asking about my talent.

She'd pursed her lips when I'd replied lying and asked me to apply to community college.

Today, she'd obsequiously accepted my card which read Chief Marketing Officer.

I like this piece because there is a lot left unsaid, yet I feel like there's a complete plot. It's not just an isolated moment, but the continuation of a life story.

Hi to you,

I am unsure how to interpret this.

Can you help me with the meaning (I am German by tongue)?

She'd pursed her lips when I'd replied lying and asked me to apply to community college.

Is the word "lying" to be understood as a literal one word answer to her?

Thank you.
