The Umbrella| AN ORIGINAL POEM

in Freewriters2 months ago

It was, I think
On a rainy evening in Lagos
Between dark and grey clouds
That a woman
Umbrella over her head
And a handbag on her shoulder
Did return from work
To meet her waiting children at the door
Smiles and embraces
Popcorn and sweets, all exchanged
To make the children happy
But the umbrella was left
Alone and lonely at the corridor
Unpaid for her sacrifices
Until a violent wind came
To forever snatch it away
Such are the travails of parenthood
