The Hunting. The 31 Sentences Contest: Round 20

This is my entry for the @tristancarax’s 31 Sentences contest, round 20

I ran as fast as I could, I didn't want to waste my time turning around, but I could feel the presence of it running after me. I ran faster and as I left it behind I could find the perfect hiding place behind some bushes; my legs were too weak and I was out of breath.

I felt like an ant. I was waiting for my tragic end: to be devoured by this great titan.

I'm too young!

Now I could feel what little insects, bugs, and ants felt when I chased them and crushed them; they would never stand a chance against a giant like me. If I’m out of this I promise never hurt them again.

The dinosaur patiently searched for its prey as quietly as possible, it knew I wouldn't get far; but luckily, the weight of its steps would give it away and I'd escape. However, its big nose was guiding it to me and I felt its grim smile full of sharp fangs.

Craving my soft flesh!

If I held still long enough, it was possible that it would not find me but my heart was beating too fast and louder. I'd die first of fear before the Velociraptor would sink its teeth.

Its footsteps rumbled in my ears closer and closer: Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

I wanted to run, but my body was frozen in fear, besides, how could I think I'd be faster than a dinosaur?

There'd be no point in running. I held my breath and covered my ears so I no longer heard the dinosaur's footsteps; for a moment I thought I had gone unnoticed.

Maybe it was waiting for me. I was sure that if I made a wrong move it'd detect my position.

What were the prayers Mom had taught me?

Row, row, row your boat crossed my mind but that wasn't exactly the one I needed.

Suddenly the snapping of a branch gave away its position and a gasp escaped from my throat.

"Moo!" growled even louder; "since when do dinosaurs moo?" I wondered; "you can't escape me", cried the dinosaur fiercely; "dinosaurs do not talk!"

"Who says that?" asked my older sister; "it is scientifically proven, their throats weren't made for words," I objected, adjusting my little glasses, discovering my position.

"Got you!" she shouted as she jumped in my direction; "QUAAAAK!" she shouted again, louder, as she was over my body.

"That's a duck!" I contradicted her with frantic laughter.

"It is proven that dinosaurs evolved into birds, isn't it? they could be ducks too" my sister replied.

"Kids, dinner is served," our mother shouted.

"Wash your hands before sitting at the table," she warned.

"We're coming!"

"A race to the sink?" I suggested; "Yeah, let's see who's faster", shouted my sister, giving me a push and starting the race without giving me a chance.

"Sheesh!"

"See you soon mister dinosaur, we'll be back soon," I said kindly to my toy.

Haha! You had me there. Although your Velociraptor was big in Jurassic Park, in reality, according to Wikipedia, they were only the size of a turkey. Sis played the role well though. 😅

That was sweat. It took me back to my childhood when I had this type of imagination. Maybe we should all play more often with the toys long put-down, like Dark Helmet in "Spaceballs." lol

I have to admit, I thought you were going somewhere different than where this shorty story ended up.

@jadams2k18, I forgot to mention that I really like this line:

Now I could feel what little insects, bugs, and ants felt when I chased them and crushed them; they would never stand a chance against a giant like me.

I once shot a bird with a bee-bee gun right in the chest. I went and picked up afterward and saw it dying as I held it in my hands. I had no intention of eating it, it was only for sport. That day changed me. I usually don't kill things just because I can no matter how small or big.

Hey! Something similar happened to me when I was a kid. I was on an uncle's farm, near a tree, and I threw a rock at a bird and I usually don't have any aim, but you know what? I hit it with the rock and it didn't die right away. It died on the ground. I couldn't touch it, it was full of lice and worms, no idea why, but that was imprinted on my memory. Since that time I promised myself, I would never kill an animal again.

Obviously, if for some reason a tiger were to attack me and I had a gun, I would kill it without a second thought.

PS: I love the next 31S challenge' s picture. I hope I have the time to write, even I don't, I will write it (my inner voice wants to do it so I have no choice hahahah).

Yes! I made you sweat ^_^

I'm glad I took you back to nice, old times. Maybe that's what a beginner writer (like me) wants to hear and that tells him (me) he's on the right track

Thank you

A very sweet tale, it builds really well like it could be full blown action, but gives way wonderfully to playing with his sister. The endless powers of the dinosaur and the older sisters insistence are really great touches of realism. A really sweet story :)

I appreciate your comment (I mean it) and you don't know the torture I suffered by cutting out many parts of the story.

Thanks for reading my story ^_^
