You are still
a vessel of memories
for me you know.
This is what I miss the most -
filling your pot as mine
and dipping in now and then
to taste a morsel

I've placed you crudely
among others of your ilk -
my witnesses.
Another abandoned craft
in the back field,
home to spiders and rabbits
and an occasional snake

I pass you daily with my dogs,
master myself now,
and I wonder if you are still
water worthy
or well

I wonder too
if your knife was sharp
when you carved a place
to put me

Pretty interesting read. Some parts seem profound, others aloof, but it all fits. There's a sense that something dramatic, wonderful, and terrible happened.

Well that is quite an accurate sense you have there. Thank you for your very astute comment.

Well said, @drutter: "something dramatic, wonderful, and terrible" is going on in this poem.
It's haunting and deep, and I get mad at myself for being obtuse (as always with poetry). First stanza, I'm thinking husband in spite of the word "vessel," which might have tipped me off. Next, "abandoned craft," I'm thinking airplane. Third stanza, "water worthy," I'm thinking boat, but "well," I'm thinking of a person again. Final stanza--which is brilliant!--has me thinking of a husband or lover. Whose knife carved a place -- to put you in your place or to control? Not a boat's. I pass you daily with my dogs, master myself now, is richly provocative. She's taking control of herself, her life, her emotions. I'll have to read this many times to "get it," but even if I'm not sure what the writer is saying, the words are so memorable, I'm still rewarded for reading it. Kinda like hearing songs and never discerning the lyrics but loving the song anyway. Sorry for the ramble - this is beautiful, @owaso! 'nuff said.

It's an old wound, still gives me a pang now and then.

I love your deep poetic expression. There's something moving between the words similar to a melancholy, but denser.

Denser than melancholy, yes. Triumph still tinged with anger. Forgiveness - not quite. Love still? yes.
