Everything Changes

Every holiday Mom knew what everyone wanted her to bring. She made the best homemade rolls we ever tasted. Her freshly baked rolls baking filled our house with a pungent yeast smell only fresh bread does. I hated waiting for her rolls to make it to the table and grew impatient as the dish was passed around the table.

This was back in the times when families ate around the table and had meaningful conversations about what went on in their day. It was also a time where children said ma'am and sir to any adult and respect was genuine.

There were so many things about the 70s that I took for granted. One of them being my Mom. It's funny how your brain combs through the past and uncovers moments like stills of times we spent unaware that we are living in the best of times with family and friends until life screeches to a halt and takes someone away.

Fresh baked rolls, a beautiful voice, fingers strumming on her guitar as she sings in alto an old Johnny Cash song. No, you never really know how good it is until it's never the same again.

So true... many times we take things for granted and most often than not, by the time we realize, it is too late. I love your writing <3

So very true, it's scary. I was just talking about this the other day as I was thinking of my grandmother. I was rinsing out a vase to put cut flowers in. It was hers and it always set on the table with flowers from her garden. She gave it to me when she got older because she knew I loved flowers.

I still sit at the table and we have dinner as a family. It is one of the things I did even if there are two of us or six of us. It is the one time we are all together without ceremony. We literally spend hours there some nights, even through our busy, it is important to continue bonding and it is just part of our life, we don't think of it as making time ... we are just having dinner.

I love your writing. I always have.
