The Middle of June

Night is sliding in like a warm summer breeze. Birds are calling one another and trees are gently moving with the occasional breeze.

Sunday came too fast. We picked up two of my grandsons Friday after work and brought them here to play in the county where there is more room and open spaces.

Friday we stayed up until midnight reading the new children's books I purchased from puppydogsandicecream.com.
We read the story of Noah's Ark and looked up videos about some of the animals in the book.

I brought my oldest granddaughter to see her cousins and I marveled at her swelling belly housing the newest member of our family, Winter Rosa. My first great grandbaby.

It was wonderful to have conversations with all of the children and learn what they are thinking. I avoided the news and focused on the future in front of us.

Jasper woke crying for his mother last night. I brought him to bed with me and listened to his even breathing as he quickly fell back to sleep. I stroked his blond head, reminded of days when it was his father who I comforted.

Time has brought me here, somehow, and allowed me to see miracles and bear witness of past miracles to these.

We drove the boys to Erie to my daughter-in-law's Mother's house for the final three days of my son and daughter-in-law's vacation. We drove home and grilled burgers outside for dinner.

As this day winds down and I am alone with my thoughts I think of Mom who picked this day, June 14th, 1997, to end her life. The years have provided more balance with my thoughts regarding the event which changed my life as the most pivoting event of it, only second to the day I received Jesus Christ as my Savior.

Death and life pulled me for decades. Life won.
I still hear Mom's voice accompanied by the tones of her guitar as she caressed strings to do her bidding.

Each year this day's memories creep out from dust covers to speak the same tale to ever evolving ears. Ears a little more adept at receiving their lessons, a little more purposeful in what needs to be done for one more year.

A family of ducks we watched at the lake Saturday.

This is my five
minute freewrite using prompt dust cover.

I am trying to get back into the Hive habit, and the Freewrite habit, and am so glad I picked today to read your story. What a bittersweet weekend you had, making good memories and remembering sad ones. Grandchildren are such a treasure, and now you have a great-grand on the way! Congratulations!

How your free write started with me remembering how I see birds flying in flock when I saw little, to talking about your grandchildren while I smile at how playful children get when they aren't asleep.

And then your mother.
I am sure she's watching you all from up there.
Thanks for sharing.😍
