TITOLO POST STEEMIT FICO.jpg

Hello everyone, how are your Christmas holidays going?

I am arranging some photos that I did not have time to process and this series of shots of an exclusion from a month ago in Vidor, a small village in the province of Treviso, has come up.

ITA

This is one of the last group excursions I have done this year, we were about thirty people.

ITA

As you can see the day was beautiful and going up the view of Vidor was not bad!

ITA

P1560415.jpg

We were about to reach the top of a hill where there is a temple dedicated to the fallen of the First World War.

ITA

P1560421.jpg

Under the portico of the temple of the Vergine Addolorata, an effigy reported the names and surnames of the fallen.

A soldier bore the same surname as me!

ITA

P1560428.jpg

The view from the upstairs terrace was even more spectacular!

ITA

P1560429.jpg

P1560430.jpg

Behind the temple there is a strange sign with a hole...I look inside you can see exactly the top of Monte Grappa.

ITA

We then left the temple behind and continued towards the hills where grapes are grown to produce the Prosecco wine, now famous throughout the world.

ITA

After crossing the hills, we went up another hill.
There we visited some Allied trenches that have recently been restored.

ITA

After a short break we descended from the hill and crossed some fields to reach the ancient abbey of Santa Bona dating back to 1100 which, however, was not accessible.

ITA

P1560485.jpg

Almost completely destroyed during the Great War. In the twenties it was restored, it currently has heavy signs of renovation. The church has kept the simple layout, typical of the local Romanesque, and some decorative elements of the late Gothic, visible on the facade of the church.

ITA

P1560486.jpg

On the facade you can still see the marks of the bullets fired during the war.

ITA

P1560493.jpg

A hundred meters from the abbey, going down a stone road, you reach the Piave river.

We had lunch there. A relaxing break.

ITA

P1560495.jpg

P1560498.jpg

We then skirted the river and then entered the vegetation...

ITA

P1560502.jpg

P1560504.jpg

P1560507.jpg

P1560510.jpg

Some views where there was more visibility were very pleasant.

Before traveling the last stretch towards the cars we made a last stop near the Piave river, there the guide entertained us with some stories about the war.

ITA

P1560515.jpg

When I take these excursions I am never disappointed, there are so many things to see, know, explore, that joining these initiatives is truly a passionate experience.

When we can return to freedom, I will certainly make many!

ITA
