Blooming Lovely: Purple Crocuses at the Holy Trinity Church

avatar
(Edited)

This time, every year, at the Holy Trinity Church in Chesterfield, there is a beautiful, carpet of purple crocuses that are in bloom in the church yard. We called in to take a look as they will only be around for a few weeks.

The church has invited people to tie ribbons to the church railings, in the colours of the Ukrainian flag to support the people of Ukraine.

Once through the main entrance to the church yard, on the right hand side was indeed covered in purple crocuses.

There was quite a bit of activity with other people taking photographs.

Next Saturday, the church is holding a Crocus Trail telling visitors the history of the plants and a chance to win a garden centre voucher! Refreshments will be on offer inside the church.

There were a few crocuses growing on the left hand side but there's not as much sun on that side. We managed to get amongst them without treading on any of them.

Oh dear. You can always rely on the pooch to be disrespectful in the church yard. He will never get to heaven .....

The crocuses were a lovely sight, and good to know that spring is on the way. Knowing the UK, it will probably snow first!

They are quite common here, but you don't usually see so many together.

I would love to see our parks/lawns here carpeted with these beautiful crocuses. 🤍 These flowers signify rebirth/new beginnings and I hope this spirit extends to the people of Ukraine.

Hmm, purple crocuses. They look lovely. It's my first time hearing of these pretty flowers.
The way they kind of coat the grounds is just pristine to see.
I would love to visit ancient looking churches like that, it looks so peaceful.
Nice pictures!

May God protect the Ukranians.

I did tell the dog that but he said if you've got to go, you've got to go! 😁

They do look lovely. It might inspire me to plant some in my garden.

That's a beautiful scene! I used to have some crocuses in my yard but the chickens dug up all the bulbs. I hope we both get spring soon. We're supposed to get snow this week and it's going to be really cold, but I'm hoping it's just winter's last gasp. I'm ready for some sun.
