Costa El Sauzal Tenerife
The southern coasts of Tenerife might draw more tourists, but if you’re looking for dramatic natural landscapes, the north is where it’s at. After having visited the Parque de los Lavaderos, we continued exploring the coastline around El Sauzal.
With the churning sea as a restless backdrop to a coastline of jagged, volcanic rocks, ocher-colored cliffs and sparse vegetation, it really feels like this section of Tenerife is trying to make itself as intimidating and inhospitable as possible. This isn’t the kind of coast you’ll want to bring your children and beach umbrella to, but it’s a wonderful place to take a long walk, contemplating the ceaseless energy of the waves, and the beauty of the environment’s contrasting colors.
From the town of El Sauzal you take a steep winding road down to the level of the sea. Not the easiest street to navigate, since the road is very narrow and only one lane at some parts. But there are several holding spots where you or the oncoming traffic can get out of the way. But be prepare the backup on a steep hill.
But it's all worth it and the walking paths along the coat are much easier to navigate once you made it down there.
You'll find the caves when you take the path on your left hand side, these caves were created by fishermen to escape the bad weather. And if you continue all the way to the end of the path and look up, you'll see the abandoned Skeleton.
