Florence at Night - a stunning city that really shines in the dark !

While visiting Florence, Italy back in October, we went out for a walk each evening, and the city is as beautiful at night as it is by day.

I love the view above looking up past the statue of Dante Alighieri outside the Basilica of Santa Croce.

And again looking back to the Basilica from within the Piazza di Santa Croce - I love how the marble really shone at night.

And above is one of the old city gates on the south side of the river just after dusk. We passed through this after coming down from the city viewpoint one night - such a lovely city feature.

The Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza Della Signoria stood out quite nicely with its different coloured marble.

The clock tower of the Palazzo Vecchio, just next to the fountain was certainly a sight to behold.

And above is another view of the clock tower, looking down through the Piazzale degli Uffizi.

It was impossible not to go and see the il Duomo at night. The dark skies were really setting it off.

The colours on its accompanying tower (Campanile di Giotto) really stood out too.

As did the front of the cathedral.

And last but not least was the beautiful Basilica di Santa Maria Novella (above).

I guess looking back a lot of it has to do with these lovely marble fronted buildings. The white and the colours just really contrast lovely with the dark skies - making them really stand out. What a pretty city !!! We cant wait to visit again - maybe one day !
