To start this adventure, I'll tell you that when I left home, the atmosphere still held traces of gray clouds, but an orange sun and blue sky were beginning to peek through them.
With almost no traffic of people or vehicles, it was perfect for walking the streets of my city during the golden hour. From the side street named "Abraham Delgado," you could hear some distant sounds of pedestrians who had been caught by surprise by the storm.

This area on the central highway contains several very colorful homes and spectacular facades. In the following images, I present to you an ornate garden where the main attraction is the "Cypress trees," three very tall green trees, with their unique characteristic as a symbol of spirituality.
Many features of the typical colonial architecture of the region are also highlighted, such as the restaurant "La Romagnola." Although there are various structures in the surrounding area with stories and peculiar designs from their time of construction, they are in a state of maximum visual deterioration. These are unique moments for a photo... or simply to stand still and gaze at the passing beauty.

The long, straight streets seem to stretch even further when they are wet. The shine of the asphalt makes the houses on the sides reflect as if in an artistic painting.
The Hotel Santiago-Habana is an example of how it dialogues with the sun, expressing a vibrant orange color that preserves the simplicity and comfort that made it popular since its beginnings in 1957. There is also the emblematic Museum of Decorative Arts and the "Las Delicias" grocery store on one side, corners with their own unique charm.

Many of these homes have walls slightly worn by time and the country's scarcity of resources, with pastel colors that the rain makes more intense: turquoise, cream, pink, light green and blue.
This part is named "Los Elevados" due to its elevated stretch of avenue, which functions as a natural viewpoint over the city. The old lampposts and electrical poles draw perfect lines in this little spot that, in the 90s, was a place of great hustle and bustle and prosperity, considered the main market of Ciego de Ávila.

Next is the train terminal, a bit run-down, but with some of its structural centers, architectures, and palm trees in a state of preservation.
This small park, with its stone floor still damp, waits on its benches for someone to sit and watch how the day calms down and the sun disappears. The city is not empty, but it is quiet, as if everyone understands that after the storm comes that brief moment of silence, freshness, and of returning home.

In the middle of that tranquil landscape, a group of people gathers, forming a small circle that seems to be used for religious ceremonies, an open-air temple.
There are young faces and also elderly or homeless people, each with their own story, but united by something in common: the search for God. Sometimes, those simple encounters are the most sincere.

As I walk, I realize that something as simple and beautiful as rain clears the noise of the day and gives way to a stunning sunset.
The streets of Ciego, with their slow pace and simple architecture, feel like a place where time walks with you, step by step. The beauty of these afternoon journeys is that the few people around greatly help in capturing unmatched photographs.

This sculpture that caught my attention is located at the Policlínica Sur in the province. It is formed by a vertical block of stone or cement worked in a geometric and fragmented style, as if it were built from multiple pieces assembled on top of each other.
In its center, a relief stands out that seems to represent large open flowers and carved petals.

Returning to my home, I observed a rainbow in the distance, showing that the rain had ended and it was the sun's turn to make a luxurious farewell between the frontispieces and colonial buildings.
On certain corners, someone appears walking slowly, perhaps returning home, taking out the trash, or simply buying the necessary ingredients for a vegetable salad for the meal.

Representing the flag of Cuba and the July 26th movement, a theater that in past times attracted important cultural events to the people of Ciego de Ávila. Today only a deteriorated facade remains, and I believe it is used for some traditional dance practices.
Just two blocks from where I live, one could only enjoy total silence on the streets, a storm that was quick and left evidence of rain with small streams, expressing absolute tranquility in the municipality.

To conclude, I waited on the porch for this beautiful sunset, which was pure fire. I want to tell you that I love these walks in the afternoon as the sun goes down, photographing my city, as it makes me feel relaxed and allows me to show you, through the lens, a little piece of the island, which is currently going through an abusive crisis.
Remember: After the storm, the Sun always comes out.
