Buddha Overload, Yungang caves, Datong, China (5 pics)

Datong is not the most interesting city to visit, but is a necessary stop if you want to go see the Yungang caves that are amazing.

There are 252 caves and niches in total, arranged over approximately 18,000 square meters.

There are 53 main ones, but some are so high in the mountain that they are impossible to see.

We can visit about twenty, each of which has its own charm.

There are over 51 000 statues on the site, of all sizes and in all states.

A gigantic work of stone engraving carried out in the 5th and 6th century that we can still admired today.

Some of the cave are very well protected.

Like this one, were we can see the original colors and all the detail of the engravings.
