The 2 oldest pyramids in Egypt, Dahshur, Egypt (3 pics)
Dahshur in Egypt is the site of the construction of the first two pyramids of Egypt.
They served as a practice for the Great Pyramid of Giza.
The first, the oldest, is the rhomboid pyramid or curved pyramid, that we can see here.
It was built between 2613 and 2589 BC and has some structural issues which cause it to be considered a failure, but it still stand.
This is the second one, the red pyramid.
Its name comes from the material used to build it, the red limestone.
It was built between 2575 and 2551 and is considered a success and served has a model for Cheops.
Although not as fascinating, it is the third largest pyramid in Egypt, after Cheops and Khafre in Giza.
Inside the red pyramid, we can walk through 3 simple and quite dark rooms.
But more interestingly, in the last room, we can admire the engrossing features of the ceiling of the main burial chamber.
