A walk around Powiśle, part 2. Where modernity meets buildings that remember historic times / Spacer po Powiślu, część 2.

When I was recently in Powiśle and writing an article about this part of Warsaw, I was walking in the old part of Powiśle, where most of the buildings are tenement houses. During my next visit to this place, I also ventured into other areas and saw this district in all its glory, also with modern buildings.

Gdy byłam ostatnio na Powiślu i pisałam artykuł o tej części Warszawy spacerowałam w starej części Powiśla, w której większość zabudowy stanowią kamienice. Podczas mojej kolejnej wizyty w tym miejscu zapuściłam się również w inne rejony i zobaczyłam tę dzielnicę w całej okazałości, również z nowoczesnymi budynkami.

In the photo above you can see the building of the Powiśle Power Plant. It used to be a real power plant, later it stopped working and someone had an idea to renovate it and create a shopping mall. Thanks to this, the power plant has undergone a great metamorphosis and is now an important point on the map of Powiśle.

Na zdjęciu powyżej możecie zobaczyć budynek Elektrowni Powiśle. Kiedyś to była prawdziwa elektrownia, później przestała działać i ktoś wpadł na pomysł, żeby ją odnowić i stworzyć galerię handlową. Dzięki temu elektrownia przeszła znakomitą metamorfozę i jest teraz ważnym punktem na mapie Powiśla.

You can see that there is a lot going on in artistic terms. There is an art gallery with paintings and a very cool designer exhibition called "Masterpieces of the 10th-11th centuries."

Widać, że w tym miejscu dużo się dzieje pod względe artystyczym. Znajduje się tutal galerii sztuki z obrazami oraz bardzo fajna designerska wystawa pt. "Arcydzieła X-XI wieku."

And this is the apartment building from the first photo, photographed from the other side. I really like the color of this building - brick red, large balconies and unusual glass.

A to apartamentowiec z pierwszego zdjęcia, sfotografowany z drugiej strony. Bardzo mi się podoba kolor tego budynku - taki ceglasty oraz duże balkony i nietypowe szyby.

But just go a little further to see socially engaged street art, a poster that says "no place for hate".

Ale wystarczy przejść trochę dalej, żeby zobaczyć zaangażowaną społecznie sztukę uliczną, plakat z napisem "no place for hate".

I really like this tenement house. I often see it when I go by bus or tram from Powiśle to the center. I like the curves at the top of this tenement house.

Bardzo lubię tę kamienicę. Często ją widuję, gdy jadę autobusem albo tramwajem z Powiśla do centrum. Podobają mi się zaokrąglenia w szczycie tej kamienicy.

This is the church of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus. My first association was that it looks like churches in smaller towns in Spain.

To kościół pw. świętej Teresy od Dzieciątka Jezus. Moje pierwsze skojarzenie było takie, że wygląda jak kościoły w mniejszych miasach w Hiszpanii.

The Copernicus Science Center is located in Powiśle. is the largest science center in Poland. There is a huge boulder in front of the entrance. Some boy was constantly moving the stone, he twirled with it.

Na Powiślu znajduje się Centrum Nauki Kopernik. to największe centrum nauki w Polsce. Przed wejściem znajduje się ogromny głaz. Jakiś chłopiec ciągle poruszał kamieniem, kręcił się razem z nim.

In front of the Copernicus Science Center there is such a scale of several people. Every now and then someone would climb on it and check their weight.

Przed Centrum Nauki Kopernik znajduje się taka kilkuosobowa waga. Co chwila ktoś na nią wchodził i sprawdzał swoją wagę.

This sculpture is a visualization of Aquaporin. It is a protein that regulates the flow of water across the cell membrane.

Ta rzeźba to wizualizacja Akwaporyny. Jest to białko, które redukuje przepływ wody przez błonę komórkową.
