National Museum in Warsaw - sculptures in front of the museum and how I was unexpectedly decontaminated from the top down when I entered the museum 😲 / Muzeum Narodowe w Warszawie - rzeźby przed muzeum i niespodziewane odkażanie przy wejściu

Today I was going to the center of Warsaw and when I was walking by the National Museum, I decided to take a look inside. I had been there once, but only seen the opening exhibitions, and now I was hoping to catch up. And there is a lot to see because it is one of the largest museums in Poland and the largest in Warsaw.

Already before entering the museum, you can see an exhibition of funny graphics from the series called "Art soothes longing." The picture below says: "bartosz_w_panek I think about this work often when I talk to my friends. They say that soon we will see each other in a larger group." The graphic shows a famous painting with a group of people sitting together at the table. This image and text allude to the pandemic and people's longing for direct group contact.

The entrance gate to the museum grounds is solid, and there is a sculpture exhibition in the courtyard in front of the museum, which I will write about in a moment. However, first I will describe to you an unexpected situation that happened to me when I entered the museum.

mn27a.jpg

When you enter the museum, you have to go through such a solid, brown gate. It looks like a gate at the airport or at the entrance to the court. I thought it was the kind of gate that would sound if I had something that I found dangerous, some metal objects ... and yet something unexpected happened while I was walking through it. I was sprayed with some spray from top to bottom. As the coronavirus pandemic continues, I immediately realized what happened and was sprayed with decontamination fluid. I was shocked, I had never experienced such total decontamination before. There are hand sanitizers in many places ... but to spray the whole person? And this when entering the museum? What do you think about it? Have you met with something like that in any museum? In my opinion, this is unnecessary action, the more that the pandemic is in retreat, and it is not known how such fluid will affect a person

I to podczas wejścia do muzeum?

mn10aaaa.jpg

It also turned out that before entering this gate there is an instruction on how to pass through it, you should turn around while walking through it, so as to thoroughly spray the body from different sides. The process is called decontamination. I really regret that I got in so quickly and didn't even pay attention to the text. If I had read it, I probably wouldn't have gone through that gate.

mn9aa.jpg

In the end, I did not visit the museum inside anyway, because it turned out that there is little time until closing and it was not worth buying a ticket and entering for half an hour, because you need more time to visit the museum. However, there is an exhibition of sculptures in front of the museum, so at least I took a look at it and I'll show you to it

mn13a.jpg

The first sculpture is the work of Xawery Dunikowski entitled "Fate". It was made in the years 1902-1904 and it is a bronze casting. For me, this sculpture reminds me of an intimate moment of physical closeness between lovers. I liked her the most of all the sculptures because of the emotional charge that can arouse in the person who watches it.

Pierwsza rzeźba to dzieło Xawerego Dunikowskiego pt. "Fatum".

mn12a.jpg

The next sculpture is entitled "Atalanta" and was made by Henryk Kuna in 1924. As in the previous sculpture, its building material is bronze.

mn15a.jpg

The sculpture in the photo below shows "Janiela" and was sculpted by Stanisław Horno-Popławski in 1956. It was made of granite.

Rzeźba na zdjęciu poniżej przedstawia "Janielę" i w 1956 roku wyrzeźbił ją Stanisław Horno-Popławski. Została stworzona z granitu.

mn17a.jpg

Some of the sculptures didn't have any plaques and I don't know what they represent, this was the case with the other two sculptures. The latter looks like a modern sculpture and resembles ... well, huh? ;)

mn18a.jpg

mn19a.jpg

There is a fountain in the middle of the courtyard in front of the museum. As I was taking pictures on one side, the wind blew the water from the fountain on me for a moment. It was nice on a hot day today, although I prefer to avoid water from fountains as they are not the cleanest water reservoirs.

mn20a.jpg

mn21a.jpg

The first sculpture on the other side of the courtyard is "Eve". The sculpture is made of graphite, in the years 1935-1936 by August Zamoyski.

Pierwsza rzeźba po drugiej stronie dziedzińca to "Ewa". Rzeźba wykonana z grafitu, w latach 1935-1936 przez Augusta Zamoyskiego.

mn22a.jpg

There was no plaque on the next sculpture. It looks like it's made of sandstone, but I'm not sure about that. I like that two people are carved, probably a couple, who are arranged in an unusual manner, but the woman hugs her head and back to the man's torso and strokes him with her hand to his chest. But the man puts something to his head, it looks like a poultice.

mn23a.jpg

The next sculpture is "Female Nude". A bronze sculpture made by Henryk Kuna in 1926.

Następna rzeźba to "Akt kobiecy". Rzeźba stworzona z brązu przez Henryka Kunę w 1926 roku.

mn24a.jpg

Another bright sculpture, no plaque. No bright sculpture has a plaque. Maybe they are just being replaced? The sculpture shows a young person in a cap with strangely arranged hands. I wonder what the artist's idea was when creating this sculpture.

mn25a.jpg

The last sculpture in this series looks strange, it is called "Roadside sculpture". It is one of the most modern sculptures exhibited in this place, because it was created in 1981. Its creator was Tadeusz Łodzianin. This is the strangest sculpture of all, I must admit that I do not like it, the sculptures of lovers appealed to me much more.

mn26a.jpg

My source of information about the sculptures are the tablets attached to the sculptures.

Informacje o rzeźbach pochodzą z tabliczek przyczepionych do rzeźb.

I can only imagine the time consumed in creating this sculpture if a chisel and hammer are used, I bet the creature of this sculpture put his heart and soul in it.

Yes, it certainly took a lot of effort to sculpt in such a hard material and make such a detailed sculpture. I like it very much 🙂
