Potami Dam Lake. A magnificent lake with turquoise water on the island of Crete and an unusual companion - a smiling face painted on a rock 😉 / Jezioro na Krecie o turkusowej barwie wody

I went to Potami Dam Lake on the way to the palm grove in Preveli on the southern part of the island of Crete. The lake enchanted me with its beautiful turquoise water and wonderful views. Unlike the more popular tourist attractions, there weren't many people there. You could sit on a high cliff with a wonderful view of the entire lake and relax and be close to nature.

Let me reassure you, I was not in danger of complete loneliness because I had a smiling face painted on a stone next to me 😉 A bit like Tom Hanks when he was on a deserted island in the movie "Cast away" and his only companion was a ball named Wilson with a face painted on it 😁

One of the few trees in this part of the lake was a huge eucalyptus. You could hide from the sun in its shade. However, after turning the other way, there was an amenity for tourists, a small house with the inscription Cafe.

I sat down under the eucalyptus tree and looked at the water rippling in the distance, and then went on a ride around the lake. It's an artificial lake. It turned out that a few years ago a crocodile lived there for a long time. It was probably released by someone. Source. I must admit that I would not have expected that crocodiles live freely in Crete. Then I wouldn't go near any lake 😉

To sztuczne jezioro.

In some parts the lake looked very picturesque, especially when there was a beach nearby. However, I didn't see anyone swimming there, so I decided not to swim in the lake myself. Even though the temperature was high and swimming in the lake would be wonderfully cooling.

At some point the weather got a little worse, the sun went down, but I noticed a place where strange pieces of trees, like branches, were growing out of the lake. They looked a bit like dead mangrove trees, but I don't know what they were. Maybe you know?

There were also such hives located on one shore of the lake. I wonder what the honey from the bees that create it in this area tastes like 😉

I bet that smiling face painted on the rock changes your mood in a second! Lovely view too :) Dams are such a great place to spend time reconnecting with nature and its sounds.

Yes, this positive face on the rock was something unexpected and very cool 😊 and this place, unlike typical tourist attractions, was without crowds of people, so it's nice to discover such beautiful places where you can have contact with nature and not get tired among a large number of people.

those trees are just remnants from when they filled the area with water. A lake I used to go to as a kid has 150+ ft tall trees that poke out of the water and yes, they are still alive. It's kinda bonkers but super cool

Thanks for the information about these trees growing out of water. It was the first time I saw something like this and I was curious what it meant 😊

The highlight of this post for me is the look of the sky and the mountains. Everytime I come across those, I can't resist staring or commenting. Maybe 'cause I haven't been to any mountains and hope to go someday and just climb, lay down at the top and stare at the sky. One day soon. I hope.

😁 cheers!

Then I recommend you make your dream come true and go to the mountains 😊 I always like beautiful mountain views and trekking to the top, it's a cool way of physical activity, spending time and I feel great satisfaction when I reach the top. While climbing the mountain, you can also be in the clouds for a while, or a little above them, and that's also great.
Cheers! 😊
