Our First Adventure at St.Elmo Valletta. Stepping Back in Time: History and Breathtaking Views .

Monday, June 8, 2026 started with excitement as we prepared for our Malta trip. School wasn't finished yet but the kids took their exams early.

At 3:50 PM, we left home by car and headed toward Komárno Train Station ( Železničná stanica Komárno). When we arrived, we were all excited. And when we noticed why there were few people in the train station. My husband thought maybe there was a problem and he approached the officer to ask what's happening. Maybe it was delayed or what. Then we learned that the train in Komárno was not operating.

That's the time our travel plans quickly became stressful. Passengers were being transferred by bus. But we only had a few minutes to catch the connecting train to Bratislava.

We decided to go by car. We were worried that traffic would cause us to miss it. My husband made a decision and we would drive to Nové Zámky instead.

At 6:30 PM, we arrived at Nové Zámky Train Station. Thankfully we had space for parking our car. The train ride was comfortable. We packed our food and drinks while we're on board.

Finally we reached Bratislava Train Station by 7:50 pm. After that, our last bus trip went to the airport.
We had a few hours to relax and waited for our next part of our journey going to Malta.

Finally, it was time for our departure at 10:35 PM. It was a night flight, someone was waiting for us in the airport to pick us up and go to our apartment. For 2 hours and 30 minutes from Bratislava to Malta.

It was morning at 2 am when we arrived at our apartment. At first it was stressful and expensive from unexpected challenges along the way and it was part of our travel memories.

First day in Malta and we woke up late. We were tired, hungry and excited to explore the city. At first, we decided to have brunch with coffee, pizza, and pasta.

After a satisfying brunch, we enjoyed taking our time exploring the beautiful streets of Valletta and a testament to its fascinating past.

We just walked around and soaked in the beauty of the city. The narrowed streets invited us to explore more. The blend of historic charm and vibrant colors that instantly captures our hearts. Elegant balconies, wooden bright colored windows and traditional architecture gave us a glimpse into Valletta's rich heritage.

It was an enjoyable stroll and putting smiles on our faces for our first activity in a quiet atmosphere. No need to rush, just strolling around and appreciating the beauty.

Following the narrowed streets and endless steps, we eventually reached the historic Fort St. Elmo National War Museum. We were ready to continue our journey through Malta's fascinating past. Our adventure on this beautiful Mediterranean Island was amazing. 😍

When we arrived at Fort St. Elmo National War Museum. We were soaked in the beauty of the city. It was our first activity in Valletta and can't wait to see for more breathing views.

The entry isn't free and my husband used the self-service kiosk to buy tickets.

Ticket prices:
Adult tickets were €8.
Senior and student were €6.
Children: €5.50

Before we reached the exhibit, the first view was greeted by a breathtaking view. It really captures our hearts of the Mediterranean sea stretching endlessly.

After that we went inside and standing in the historic fortress felt like stepping back in time. The St. Elmo Fort stands proudly with those massive limestone walls, open courtyards and beautiful arches.

It was named after Saint Erasmus and commonly known as Saint Elmo, the patron saint of sailors.I still can't believe I'm inside the wide courtyard surrounded by arcaded buildings. It's the country's history from the Great Siege to the events of World War II.

Surrounded by arcaded buildings, the wide courtyard of St. Elmo created a perfect contrast to the stories of war and sacrifice preserved inside.

Every corner seemed to hold a piece of Malta's past. From the Great Siege to the events of World War II.

Seeing the fort in great condition and preserving architecture. But inside I could easily imagine how soldiers sacrificed their lives.

There's more to share with you guys. I'll write all about it in my next blog. Hope you like my blog! ❤️

That’s a beautifully evocative snapshot of Fort St. Elmo. The way you contrast the serene courtyard with the heavy stories of war and sacrifice inside really captures the duality of the place: calm surroundings holding centuries of conflict.

Thank you and I'm glad you felt it too. Malta is so beautiful. Those walls have so many sacrifices.

Beautiful island but head's up: very crowded and not yet peak season, lots of constructions too and if you rent a car, hmmmmm good luck for the parking. 😊
