Central Oregon Cascades Hike
What better way to get myself out of slump then to go for a hike in nature! Today we will hike to Little Three Creek Lake that lies beneath Tam McArthur Rim. It is a 3 mile round trip at about 6500 feet elevation in the Central Oregon Cascade Mountain Range. This hike is about a 35 minute drive from my front door. It is a crystal clear, cool, sunny day so follow along as...
The Journey Begins
There are a few different starting points for this hike. I choose the one that I hope is less traveled.
We cross a meadow toward the creek that runs out of Little Three Creek Lake. Things are pretty dry here, always worrisome for fire season.
The clear water of the creek. We will cross the creek here and continue south toward the lake.
The first view of Tam McArthur Rim that towers over the lake.
A little greener meadow where the creek is flowing.
The last junction before the lake. We will continue on to the right. To this point we had not seen a soul but from here on we rad into a few different groups. It seems I might have chose the right starting point... at least for the first part of the hike. 😀
Tam McArthur Rim across the meadow. The lake is nestled at the bottom of the rocks on the right side.
I got home and was scanning this telephoto shot of this chimney like feature on the rim. I was hoping I might see some mountain goats or other wildlife. Alas, the only "wildlife" were some people on the rim trail to the left of the chimney. 😀
The Lake & The Rim
I must say, the view was well worth the effort! 😅
Might have gone a little overboard on the panoramas here but I was practicing some different techniques. Plus I am a sucker for panos. 🙃
A last shot across the lake before heading back. There is an around the lake trail that adds another mile to the journey. I hope to be back in fall to maybe give that a try when perhaps there will be fewer people.

Hey there @oldmans. I came across your post at @pinmapple's travel digest. It seems like you enjoyed taking a lot of great photos on your hike. I am just wondering, were you hiking alone? While, it is certainly beautiful, I can't help but imagine a bear or some wild animal waiting to pummel unfortunate travelers lol. It does look very serene and tranquil. Anyways, it is a refreshing lake and I can see why you chose to visit it for a day hike. See you around. I hope you don't mind me following your blog.
Thank you for stopping by @josejirafa! Always nice to have another follower. Greatly appreciated. 😀
I did have a hiking partner and some personal protection. Hiking in the back country always has the risk of an encounter with some wild life. Bear and cougar being the most concerning. I try to be aware of my surroundings, stay vigilant and make some noise. Not sure if I could fight them off but I would give it a heck of a try. lol.
Have a great day!
