Pantan Terong, The Land Above The Clouds in Gayo Highlands

Pantan Terong is located in Central Aceh District in Gayo Highlands of Indonesia. The land of Pantan Terong is so high, that sometime we could see the clouds go down to hills under Pantan Terong and the clouds cover Lake Laut Tawar surface from above, which close our sight from Pantan Tering. That’s why Pantan Terong is so called “The Land Above The Clouds”.

There is a terrace for a look out here. It’s really a perfect place to look and enjoy the beauty of scenic Lake Laut Tawar in Gayo Hinglands when the sky is clear. I really love to visit Pantan Terong. It’s only 20 minutes driving from the heart of Takengon Town. It’s pretty easy to access since the road is very well and smooth.

Many visitors come to this place in weekend. Mostly ara local visitors from other districts in Aceh Province and many domestic tourists from other provinces in Indonesia. And also some foreign tourists.

My family and I love to visit this place. We may visit Pantan Terong several times in a year since our house is not so far from “the land above the clouds”. We live in Bener Meriah District, it’s about one hour driving to get to Pantan Terong.

When we went to downhill, we found other destination. We could take hanging bike here. It’s pretty fun for visitors.

And there is also an ornament of butterfly. It’s great with yellow color.

And a hand-made nest. My kids love to go inside the nest. Yeah, this is like a big bird nest.

Since Gayo Highlands is a region producing arabica coffee, we may find coffee farm everywhere, even in Pantan Terong. There is a house in this farm. It looks so peaceful to stay in the house.

However, there is also a coffee shop in here. We may sip a cup of coffee and bite some cakes. The weather is pretty cold, the air will be colder when the wind blows from the hills around there.

Pantan Terong is a must visit place when you visit Takengon in Gayo Highlands of Aceh Province. I am pretty sure, you will have some memorable experiences.
