Hail to the Hive!

So today we continue our journey out through Leicestershire, headed south on the Leicester arm of the Grand Union Canal. There are a lot of canal locks on this section. We did a mild 4 locks yesterday and had a kind of half day to take the sting out of it as it can be a real workout.

Here we go..

I have @millycf1976 with me though so we work as a team making our way through the canal lock gates.

We are new to this and have kind of worked out our own way of working together through the locks, it's very much a team effort living on a boat together. We are literally moving our home every day.

And here's the first of 12 locks today.

So we are ascending on this flight of locks so......

And on to the next locks

It takes us between 15 to 20 minutes to get through each lock depending on if it's already set for us , meaning if the water level is at our level on arrival. This section has a lot of leaky gates so even if it was in our favour when the last boat left it it may have refilled due to leakage and we have to empty th lock anyway. It means it can take quite a long time moving only a few miles.

This means I can drive right in when I get there, makes it a little easier and quicker.

Love some of these lock houses. People live in them. Would be great if you're a people wather watching the boats negotiate the locks all day.

As we are at home wherever and whenever we stop we can always reward ourselves for all the hard work opening and closing the lock gates.
