Exploring Pichincha Square (Eng/Esp)

This morning I decided to leave the house; I didn’t have a specific destination in mind, but I wanted to continue exploring the historic center of Cumana. This time, I ended up at Square Pichincha, which honors the exploits of the hero Antonio Jose of Sucre in that battle. There stands a solemn bust of this military strategist.
Since it was Thursday, the plaza and the surrounding area were quite bustling. There were high school students in uniform waiting to go to their graduation ceremony; I also cherish that beautiful memory in my heart. The young people seemed very excited about this new academic achievement.
This square is small and has many large trees, which is why it’s poorly lit at night, unlike other public spaces; however, early in the morning, this isn’t much of an issue.
This area is very busy because on one side is the Armando Zuluaga Blanco Public Library and on the other is Santa Rosa Catholic University and the famous Cafe con Bracamonte, iconic landmarks that have become points of reference for all residents.
One of the most striking features of this space is the small benches and round tables at the far end of the square, right behind the wall marked “Square Pichincha.” This area is a frequent gathering spot for students and university groups.
Walking through the square isn’t just about being in a natural setting, breathing fresh air, and enjoying the gardens—it’s also about connecting with history and delving deeper into it, recognizing and honoring our heroes of the independence movement.

Hoy en la mañana decidí salir de casa, no tenía un rumbo fijo pero quería continuar explorando el centro histórico de Cumaná, esta vez llegué a la Plaza Pichincha, la cual rinde honor a las hazañas del héroe Antonio José de Sucre en dicha batalla. Allí reposa un busto solemne de este estratega militar.
Como era jueves había bastante movimiento en la plaza y alrededor de ella. Habían estudiantes de bachillerato uniformados esperando para ir a su actividad de graduación, también atesoro ese lindo recuerdo en mi corazón. Los jóvenes lucían muy entusiasmados con este nuevo logro académico.
Esta plaza es de dimensiones pequeñas y hay muchos árboles grandes, de allí que la iluminación sea escasa en la noche, a diferencia de otros espacios públicos, sin embargo, a tempranas horas de la mañana esto no afecta tanto.
Esta zona es muy concurrida porque de un lado se encuentra la biblioteca pública Armando Zuluaga Blanco y del otro la Universidad Católica Santa Rosa y el cafetín famoso Café con Bracamonte, puntos emblemáticos que se han convertido en referencia para todos los habitantes.
Una de la parte más llamativa de este espacio son los banquitos y mesas circulares al final de la plaza, justo detrás del muro con la identificación "Plaza Pichincha". Este espacio es un lugar de encuentro frecuente par estudiantes y grupos universitarios.
Caminar por la plaza no solo es estar en un entorno natural, respirar aire puro y disfrutar de los jardines sino conectar con la historia y profundizar sobre ella, reconocer y valorar a nuestros héroes independentistas.
