FungiFriday - Hide and seek

mushrooms bark sand 2.jpg

Looking for mushrooms when the season is almost over is not an easy thing. They will hide from you. They will blend with the leaves around. They will pop in places you would never think of finding one.
They are smart beasts that will play hide and seek with you. It is a battle and sometimes they win.

This one tried hard to hide behind the big piece of bark. And he almost made it. But my well_trained_mushroom_hunter_eye spotted him..

bam bam bam!

You have been shot!

I am guessing this is the same type, just a little older and drier.

Bonus shot:
Some large Cladonia Lichens cups I found at the same time.

My contribution to #FungiFriday by @ewkaw

I hope many of you will join as there are only 2 simple rules:

  • when Friday comes post your own, original photo/drawing/art/food/anything-at-all of any type of fungi (yes, I will check and report stolen images!)
  • add #FungiFriday tag (it doesn't have to be your first tag)
    That's all :)

I should have added: "No mushrooms were harmed during the shoot."

I wonder what it is, seems to be growing from wood and the soil.

It was wooded area with pines and some bushes (Ulex, heather and some leafy ones) with very sandy soil.
This one looked it was stuck to the bark or growing directly from it. But I saw similar ones growing from the soil.

The lichen cups are really cool! I've been living in Nunavut for a year now and have only come across one single Mushroom out on the tundra. Lots of lichen tho, which I aim to get out and photograph today (Assuming it warms up from the chilly 1 degree it has been of late)

I read that Lichens grow on all the continents! Curious to see what you have there.
1 degree... it is 30+ here all week long! I could swap :)

Would it be okay to make a lichen post or two in this community? I am a bit unfamiliar with the different types of lichen we have up here, but I am more than ready to dive into the black hole that is learning! XD

Lichens comprise a fungus living in a symbiotic relationship with an alga or cyanobacterium (or both in some instances).

Today I learned!

I think my posts would fit well in the community. And if I can I like to provide traditional Inuit names and uses for the various plants and animals I blog about.
