《TV Series 》The Smart Money Woman

When taking a list of a good movie, you could add this to it....depending on your definition of a good movie ofcourse. From the storyline, to the characters, the expression in diversity of Nigerian traditions in relating to responsibilities, marriage...basically things the society expects of a woman. Watching and being able to relate closely with the story is something I really enjoyed. I give them accolades for actually trying to proffer solutions to real life situations on how women can better themselves.

The journey through the lives of five friends as they navigate through life, the ups and downs....as well as the path to becoming smart money women.

The Smart money women is a Nigerian Tv series based on a novel written by Arese Ugwu. The series was directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye and starred Osas Ighodaro, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Toni Tones, Ebenezer Eno, Ini Dima Okojie amongst others.

The TV series takes us on the journey through the lives of five beautiful independent women who sought to live successful lives. Like the title The Smart money women, it gives us a ride on issues surrounding women most especially finances and relationships and how these women were able to get to the top of their game.

This is majorly a story that revolves around the financial capabilities of women, their ways of spending and its effect on the long run. Taking us on the ride of five friends with different issues and pressures from every angle...including pressure they put on themselves. These women try all they can to deal with problems as individuals and also as friends....having each others back.

There is Zuri, a beautiful Smart woman who found out through social media that her boyfriend is getting married to someone else and also finding herself in a financial mess at the same. In trying to take control of her life, financially and emotionally, she would have to make an intentional decision. There is also Adesuwa, a loving, caring wife and a successful lawyer tied up to the challenges from her marriage. Tami a young entrepreneur struggling to keep her business afloat while trying to enjoy the attention she gets from men. Lara, the most sensible of them all who seems to have it all figured out as a successful career woman but almost, if not from the excessive demands from her family. There is also Ladun, the shopping butterfly with a millionaire husband, who was rendered broke due to the death of her husband's father.

The series showed through these characters how women handles situations, the value of genuine friendship, societal and peer pressure, the importance of investing in oneself amongst other things in general. An interesting addition which I really liked was the motivational quote given at intervals as the show progressed on how to become a smart money woman, speaking directly to the viewers.

The story hit straight to the root, it is so relatable as I was literally thinking about myself and affirming all that was portrayed...."this is me", I thought to myself so many times during the course of watching the series. Comedy isn't excluded as you also get a good laugh in the midst of everything. Lest I forget, there is also a love story which I didn't actually fancy by the way, there was no chemistry between the couple. I felt they just needed the love story to portray the relationship aspect of Zuri's life...it was more about the message not the love.

This is not one of the big TV series you would see on your screen everyday but it sure has its sweetness, coupled with a nice sauce of African magic.

I read a review from another user a while back and put it on my list of productions I want to check out, it looks interesting and I want to see how these women squander the money: I'll check back to see if it's available in my country.
