Estas no son exactamente películas de amor con final feliz, creo que en su mayoría reflejan procesos complejos del romance y por eso me gustan tanto ¡Comencemos!

What's up! Welcome to my blog. Today I want to join @beatriche's initiative about sharing 5 romantic movies that I like a lot. These are not exactly love movies with happy endings, I think they mostly reflect complex processes of romance and that's why I like them so much. Let's start!

One Day

One Day tells the story of Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter (Jim Sturgess), two people who meet on July 15, 1988 after graduation and from then on develop a friendship that will last for 20 years. Each July 15th we are shown where these characters are in their lives and how over the years they realize that they are in love. It sounds simple, but it is not.
One Day cuenta la historia de Emma (Anne Hathaway) y Dexter (Jim Sturgess), dos personas que se conocen el 15 de Julio de 1988 tras su graduación y de allí en adelante entablan una amistad que veremos transcurrir durante 20 años más. Cada 15 de Julio se nos muestra en que página de sus vidas se encuentran estos personajes y cómo con el pasar de los años se van dando cuenta de que están enamorados. Suena simple, pero no lo es.

This film portrays a love that seems not to find its moment in time and space, an unconditional and idealized love encapsulated in a friendship relationship, it is not a perfect love, since it is not presented from the point of view of a couple's love but from a friendship relationship. Thus we see how two good friends go through different stages as they become adults, we witness different crises in their lives and we see how they go through situations of addictions, frustrations and failed relationships. We see them grow, we see their good and bad moments, which makes it easy to connect with the characters.
Esta película retrata un amor que pareciera no encontrar su momento en el tiempo y espacio, un amor incondicional e idealizado encapsulado una relación de amistad, no es un amor perfecto, ya que de por si no se plantea desde un punto de vista de amor de pareja sino que parte de una relación de amistad. Así vemos como dos buenos amigos pasan por distintas etapas mientras se vuelven adultos, presenciamos distintas crisis en sus vidas y vemos como atraviesan situaciones de adicciones, frustraciones y relaciones fallidas. Los vemos crecer, vemos sus momentos malos y buenos, lo cual hace que sea fácil conectar con los personajes.

When I analyze the psyche of the characters I can see how they both have problems of self-worth and fear of failure, something that ends up being reflected in their relationship dynamics. As I tell you, it's not an easy relationship, Emma and Dexter go through a lot of difficulties so as the movie progresses you don't know if they are going to be together or not.
Cuando analizo la psique de los personajes puedo notar como ambos tienen problemas de auto-valoración y miedo al fracaso, algo que termina reflejándose en su dinámica relacional. Como les digo, no es una relación fácil, Emma y Dexter atraviesan muchas dificultades así que a medida que avanza la película no sabes si van o no a estar juntos.

What I like about this film is that it portrays a love that goes beyond roles, it presents a relationship that lasts over time but changes a lot. I think one of the lessons it teaches is that life is not linear and changes constantly, even in love.
Lo que me gusta de esta película es que retrata un amor que va mas allá de los roles, nos presenta una relación que perdura en el tiempo pero va cambiando muchísimo. Creo que una de las enseñanzas que muestra es que la vida no es lineal y cambia constantemente, incluso en el amor.

This film is for me a masterpiece that explores the limits of the romantic genre by posing a love story between a man and an artificial intelligence.
Her tells the story of Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), a man who writes love letters on demand and who is in the process of divorce, as a result of the loneliness he feels he decides to buy an artificial intelligence to have someone to talk to. This artificial intelligence is called Samantha (whose voice is played by Scarlett Johansson) and is located inside a mobile device, has no physical body but this doesn't prevent her and Theodore end up entering into a romantic relationship.
Esta película es para mí una obra maestra que explora los límites del género romántico al plantear una historia de amor entre un hombre y una inteligencia artificial.
Her cuenta la historia de Theodore Twombly (Joaquín Phoenix), un hombre que se dedica a escribir cartas de amor por encargo y que se encuentra en un proceso de divorcio, a raíz de la soledad que este siente decide comprar una inteligencia artificial para tener con quien hablar. Esta inteligencia artificial se hace llamar Samantha (cuya voz es interpretada por Scarlett Johansson) y se encuentra dentro de un dispositivo móvil, no tiene cuerpo físico pero esto no impide que ella y Theodore terminan entablando una relación amorosa.
In Her the dominant theme is loneliness, we see and feel Theodore's loneliness in every frame. He is isolated living in an emotional purgatory after the divorce, but as the film progresses we see how he changes his way of life and his goals, leaving behind the past and the dreams he had to start living experiences that are necessary to be better with himself and life.
En Her el tema dominante es la soledad, vemos y sentimos la soledad de Theodore en cada cuadro. Él está aislado viviendo en un purgatorio emocional tras el divorcio, pero a medida que avanza el film vemos como cambia su modo de vida y sus metas, dejando atrás el pasado y los sueños que tenía para empezar a vivir experiencias que son necesarias para estar mejor consigo mismo y la vida.
Esta película ofrece una experiencia melancólica que toca muchas ideas existenciales como ¿Qué significa realmente amar a alguien? O ¿Cuál es el propósito del amor en nuestras vidas? Por lo que me resulta increíble la carga emocional que tiene, es admirable como narran una historia de amor con temas tan profundos, logrando conmover muchísimo a pesar de que en esta relación solo una de las partes está presente físicamente.
This film offers a melancholic experience that touches on many existential ideas such as What does it really mean to love someone? Or What is the purpose of love in our lives? It is admirable how they narrate a love story with such deep themes, managing to move a lot despite the fact that in this relationship only one of the characters is physically present.
Before Sunrise

Before Sunrise tells the story of Jesse (Ethan Hawke), a young American, and Céline (Julie Delpy), a young French woman, who meet on a train and after a pleasant conversation decide to disembark together in Vienna, where they spend the night walking around the city and getting to know each other. They develop a special connection, but the next day they must separate.
Before Sunrise cuenta la historia de Jesse (Ethan Hawke), un joven estadounidense, y Céline (Julie Delpy), una joven francesa, que se encuentran en un tren y tras una conversación agradable deciden desembarcar juntos en Viena, donde pasan la noche caminando por la ciudad y conociéndose el uno a otro. Así desarrollan una conexión especial, pero al día siguiente deben separarse.
This is the first part of the Before trilogy directed by Richard Linklater, a saga that tells the evolution of love through time. This first installment is about idealized love, about how we think love should be and those first moments that seem to be so magical. It is a somewhat utopian film that ends up contrasting well with his last installment Before Midnight, which shows realistic love. In itself I recommend the whole saga, but the first one is the most romantic.
Esta es la primera parte de la trilogía Before dirigida por Richard Linklater, una saga que cuenta la evolución del amor a través del tiempo. Esta primera entrega se trata del amor idealizado, sobre cómo creemos que debería ser el amor y esos primeros momentos que parecen ser tan mágicos. Es una película un poco utópica que termina por contrastarse bien con su última entrega Before Midnight, la cual muestra el amor realista. De por si les recomiendo toda la saga, pero la primera es la más romántica.

La La Land is my favorite musical movie, because I think the plot, music and cinematography are beautiful. The first time I saw it I cried a lot and it left a mark on me, so I had to include it in this post.
La La Land es mi película musical favorita, pues me parece que la trama, la música y la cinematografía son preciosas. La primera vez que la vi lloré muchísimo y me dejó marcada, así que tenía que incluirla en este post.

La La Land tells the story of Mia (Emma Stone) an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) a jazz pianist, two artists who want to fulfill their dreams and when they meet they fall in love and support each other to achieve them, but along the way their aspirations get in the way of their relationship.
La La Land cuenta la historia de Mia (Emma Stone) una aspirante a actriz, y Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) un pianista de jazz, dos artistas que desean cumplir sus sueños y que al conocerse se enamoran y se apoyan para alcanzarlos, pero en el camino sus aspiraciones se interponen en la relación.

This is a relationship that is eclipsed by the individual aspirations of each, so in addition to being a love film it is about sacrifice to achieve goals. At the beginning Mia and Seb are stuck wishing for their dreams, without being aligned with the path that will lead them to fulfill them, but as they get to know each other they both give each other the support to get what they want, they stop dreaming to start executing, in this way they learn that they have to make sacrifices to achieve their dreams.

Esta es una relación que esta eclipsada por las aspiraciones individuales de cada uno, por lo que además de ser una película de amor trata sobre el sacrificio para alcanzar metas. Al inicio Mia y Seb están atrapados deseando sus sueños, sin estar alineados con el camino que los llevará a cumplirlos, pero al conocerse ambos se dan el apoyo para conseguir lo que quieren, dejan de soñar para empezar a ejecutar, de esta forma aprenden que hay que hacer sacrificios para alcanzar sus sueños.

In this story our protagonist Joel (Jim Carrey) has just had a breakup with his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet), to which she decides to apply a brain process to erase Joel's memories from her mind. When Joel discovers the measures Clementine took to forget their relationship, he decides to undergo the same procedure
Esta es otra película de romance con ciencia ficción, ya que aquí existe una máquina que puede borrar las memorias que tu elijas de tu mente. En esta historia nuestro protagonista Joel (Jim Carrey) acaba de tener una ruptura con su novia Clementine (Kate Winslet), a lo que ella decide aplicarse un proceso cerebral para borrar las memorias de Joel de su mente. Al Joel enterarse de las medidas que tomó Clementine para olvidar su relación, decide llevar acabo el mismo procedimiento.

The great thing about this movie is that we take a walk through Joel's mind, we enter his conscious and unconscious, we hear his thoughts, we know his fears and we see his memories. The way the scenario of Joel's mind is captured is like a dream, where we go from sequence to sequence between the good and bad memories he shared with Clementine as they crumble, literally, inside Joel's mind.
In my opinion, this film teaches that everyone is responsible for their actions and that the experiences that hurt are also part of our decisions, part of the path. They are experiences that nourish us, teach us, and although erasing what hurts may seem easier, in the end these experiences are learning. It is a super nice movie, go see it!
Lo genial de esta peli es que hacemos un paseo por la mente de Joel, entramos en su consiente e inconsciente, escuchamos sus pensamientos, conocemos sus miedos y vemos sus recuerdos. La manera en que es plasmado el escenario de la mente de Joel es como un sueño, donde vamos de secuencia en secuencia entre los recuerdos buenos y malos que compartió con Clementine mientras estos se van desmoronando, de manera literal, dentro de la mente de Joel.
A mi parecer esta película enseña que cada quien es responsable de sus actos y que las experiencias que duelen también son parte de nuestras decisiones, parte del camino. Son experiencias que nos nutren, nos enseñan, y aunque borrar lo que duele pueda parecer más sencillo, al final estas vivencias son aprendizaje. Es una película súper linda ¡vayan a verla!

Interesante selección. Me encanta La La Land y On Day por sus finales tristes. Me encantan las pelis que me hacen llorar. On Day recuerdo que la vi porque no habia mas nada, me dije, voy a ver esta cosa que seguro sera la misma historia romántica de siempre con final feliz y wow, me destrozo.
Her es excelente. Her me dio miedo, porque es un futuro muy cercano. Ya existen aplicaciones, son muy usadas en asía, donde tienen novias virtuales, por supuesto no son una inteligencia artificial como en la película, pero ya estamos mas cerca de ese mundo tan deprimente.
One Day es una sorpresa con ese final, a mi también me hizo llorar terrible, pero me encantó.
En cuanto a Her, nunca había transpolado a la realidad la tecnología que se muestra en la peli, pero si me pareció súper llamativo que el mundo que muestran allí es todo lindo, todo aesthetic con colores pastel, donde todo parece perfectamente armonioso, pero las personas se sienten demasiados solitarias.
Al final estas IA lo que harían sería decirnos lo que queremos escuchar, más no nos ayudarían a lidiar con la complejidad de las relaciones humanas, las cuales requieren gran tolerancia entre las partes. Es denso, pero la tecnología en exceso si puede producir que nos aislemos y que las conexiones humanas sean cada vez más difíciles de lograr, lo cual nos perjudica y todo como especie, porque estamos echos para vivir en comunidad.

Hola, solo veo películas románticas con mi esposa, pero esta en particular Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, me gustó mucho no por la historia de amor algo complicada y con altas y bajas que podemos ver sino por sus personajes y personalidades que me volaron la cabeza dándole forma a una idea genial que sin duda fue bien ejecutada, este tipo de películas quizás no sean de las mejores o del gusto de toda la Comunidad, pero tiene eso que la hace orgánica y juego con la mente humana hasta el punto de que te hagas algunas preguntas e intentes responderlas en el proceso.

¡Hola @bigcarrillo! Me encanta que usaste la palabra orgánica para describir Eternal, me parece que las actuaciones estan muy bien hechas y se plasma una relación bastante natural. Ciertamente no es una película hecha para todo el mundo, pero si creo que precisamente para el público que no es fan de las chick flick esta película les puede gustar mucho.
