(ESP-ENG) Jungle Cruise - La reseña de esta aventura // Jungle Cruise - The review of this adventure.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
I am very excited to do this review because it was my return to the movie theaters after more than a year and a half approximately and I wanted to do it with this movie that according to the reviews of the same viewers seemed to be very good and entertaining. Having said that to be entertaining there is a truth and that is that Dwayne Johnson's movies meet these requirements, ALL of them, some to a lesser extent than others but in the end they are movies that sell.
It has a little bit of Jumanji, The Mummy, Indiana Jones and maybe in some shades of Pirates of the Caribbean but the thing is that in fact it entertained me for a little more than 2 hours. I like this kind of movies where adventure, legends and ancestral tales reign, so Jungle Cruise was the appropriate one. So let's see what this story is about.
- Resumen // Summary.
The adventure begins in the early twentieth century where Frank (Dwayne Johnson) is a captain with a rather cheerful and flashy personality which has a somewhat peculiar boat with which sails the waters of the Amazon River, all this in order to make trips for wealthy tourists. Between things that are happening, the scientist Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) arrives at the dock with her brother McGregor Houghton (Jack Whitehall) asking for a special and risky trip.
The reason for this trip is to find a tree whose flower has certain magical and healing powers. The detail is that behind those petals also goes the bad guy of the game, Prince Joachim (Jesse Plemons), who wants them only to achieve world domination. Throughout their journey they will have to overcome all kinds of obstacles that the jungle has prepared for them, such as a curse.
And the fact is that in this film there is not just one villain but TWO. The second is Aguirre, played by Venezuelan Edgar Ramirez, who is a Spanish conquistador who is cursed and trapped in the depths of the jungle. So not only Frank and Lily will have to watch out for the prince but also for these beings that lurk in the Amazon.
- Opinion.
I don't know if you know it but this movie is inspired by one of the most famous attractions of the park which was created by Walt Disney himself to recreate a cruise on the Amazon River without the need to travel to Brazil. Then, seeing the success of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Mickey Mouse company decided to do the same with this story and see if they could achieve the feat.
With that small detail I say that the film is excellent because it basically fulfills its objective which is to entertain and make the viewer have a good time and enjoy the adventure. And it is a story that has it all: Spanish conquistadors, a dictatorial villain with macabre plans, a magical and mystical component, native tribes of the Amazon and above all the grace and charisma of Emily Blunt and The Rock.
In terms of effects we can expect everything we can imagine, the truth is that it fully complies with this aspect and I repeat, it has many similarities and a lot of vibe to The Mummy and Jumanji so if you are one of those who enjoyed those movies I'm sure you will like this one a lot.
But I think the best thing about this film is undoubtedly the cast, the chemistry between Frank and Lily is undeniable. On one side is The Rock who is a chameleon when it comes to playing this type of characters that are Alpha males but with that comic spark that in this case fits perfectly with the role. On the other hand, there is Emily, who in this role of adventurous scientist plays the feisty woman that the prejudices of the time will not stop her from achieving everything she sets her mind to.
Without forgetting Jake Whitehall, Lily's brother, who also steals the show on some occasions for his role with comic overtones and also provides that sentimentality that is sometimes necessary. The antagonist is another one who also stands out as he is the typical villain full of pure evil with touches of comedy. And yes friends, this movie is an adventure full of comedy.
In conclusion, an excellent movie that does not bore at any time full of surprises, adventures, laughs, tension, mystery that is really very enjoyable. I highly recommend it, I give it an 8.5/10 for how solid and entertaining it is. I leave you the trailer in case you haven't seen it.
