However, when you look at the appearance of this quartet of cops with a license to kill, you can notice their elegant suits, the beautiful bodywork of their cars (for the time they were of the latest generation) and above all, the garment in their attire that identifies them, their typical hats in the style of the American fashion of those golden years. These characteristics were the letter of introduction for Max, Elleroy, Arthur and Eddie, at the time of executing the long arm of the law, in the city of Los Angeles and beyond.

No obstante, cuando se observa la apariencia de este cuarteto de policías con licencia para matar, se puede notar sus elegantes trajes, la hermosa carrocería de sus autos (para la época eran de última generación) y sobre todo, la prenda en su atuendo que los identifica, sus típicos sombreros al estilo de la moda americana de aquellos años dorados. Estás características, hacían de carta de presentación de Max, Elleroy, Arthur y Eddie, al momento de ejecutar el largo brazo de la ley, en la ciudad de Los Angeles y más allá.

Everything seems to go smoothly, everyone fulfills his or her role at work, although Max's wife Katherine (played by Melanie Griffith) doesn't think so. The human being, from his reality, is prone to fall into the temptations of life itself, which are nothing more than the display of his weaknesses by nature. Here comes into context the short but striking appearance of the always beautiful Jennifer Connelly, playing the apple of sin in the beautiful Allison Pond, a girl who performs the oldest job in the world, but unknowingly puts two men in enmity.

Todo parece marchar sobre ruedas, cada quien cumple con su rol dentro del trabajo, aunque Katherine, la esposa de Max no piense igual (interpretada por Melanie Griffith). El ser humano desde su realidad, es proclive a caer en las tentaciones de propias de la vida, que no son otra cosa que la muestra de sus debilidades por naturaleza. Acá entra en contexto la corta pero llamativa aparición de la siempre hermosa Jennifer Connelly, interpretando a la manzana del pecado en la bella Allison Pond, una chica que realiza el trabajo más antiguo del mundo, pero que sin saberlo, pone a dos hombres en enemistad.

It seems to me another very recurrent theme, the fact that members representing different forces of the state, are immersed in a confrontation or conflict of interests. In which both sides believe themselves to be above the laws; and seem so convinced of it, that they do not accept any opinion or criticism on the matter. But it is precisely from there, where people with low desires who hide behind their status of untouchability, to believe they have the right to take and destroy innocent lives.

Me parece otro tema muy recurrente, el hecho que miembros que representan diversas fuerzas del estado, se vean inmersas en un enfrentamiento o conflicto de intereses. En el que ambos bandos se creen estar por encima de las leyes; y parecieran tan convencidos de ello, que no aceptan opinión o crítica al respecto. Pero es precisamente de allí, dónde habitan personas con bajos deseos que se escudan en su estatus de intocabailidad, para creerse con el derecho a quitar y destruir vidas inocentes.

Undoubtedly, people who hold high positions or high rank levels are also human beings behind the uniform; that is how General Thomas Timms, played by (John Malkovich) falls into temptation, but beyond that not very condemnable act, the mistake is in leaving clues or evidence of these; it is then when, in the desperation of not being discovered, he incurs in much worse things than that slip, which puts his reputation at risk. Assuming responsibility seems to be out of the question for those who insist on taking care of their facades, which are increasingly difficult to sustain.

Sin duda, las personas que ostentan altos cargos o niveles de alto rango, también son seres humanos detrás del uniforme; es así como el general Thomas Timms, interpretado por (John Malkovich) cae en la tentación, pero más allá de ese acto poco condenable, el error está en dejar pistas o evidencias de éstos; es entonces cuando, en el desespero de no ser descubierto, incurre en cosas mucho peores que aquel desliz, que pone en riesgo su reputación. Asumir las responsabilidades pareciera estar descartado, para quienes se empeñan en cuidar sus fachadas, cada vez más difíciles de sostener.

One of the things I love about this "forgotten" film, is the strength in scene that gives the cast, whose recognized presence and experience, give me the feeling of forgetting the dialogues and let me be carried away by the visual sense, following what the characters do, beyond what they say. Not to mention Jennifer's daring scenes, I think she is worthy of an almost unedited collection ha,ha,ha,ha. However, this film is almost exclusively about men, who, because they are seduced by the use of power, clash in the exercise of their functions.

Una de las cosas que me encantan de esta "olvidada" cinta, es la fortaleza en escena que le da el elenco, cuya reconocida presencia y experiencia, me dan la sensación de olvidar los diálogos y dejarme llevar por el sentido visual, siguiendo lo que hacen los personajes, más allá de lo que dicen. Ni hablar de las escenas atrevidas de Jennifer, creo que es digna de una colección casi inédita ja,ja,ja. Sin embargo, este film es casi exclusivamente de hombres, que por estar seducidos por el uso del poder, chocan en el ejercicio de sus funciones.

If I had already been struck by the style of the four saddled men, watching them take on an enemy much larger than themselves was even fun. I connected with the old west style bullet action, but I also lamented Elleroy's death since Chazz is one of my favorites. It was strange to see them playing the good guys, but in their own way. In this conservative-leaning film, everything happens and that breaks the mold I already knew; seeing military forces and even atomic explosions was beyond my parameters for a crime thriller.

Si ya me había llamado la atención del estilo de los cuatro hombres ensombrerados, verlos enfrentarse a un enemigo mucho mayor a ellos fue incluso divertido. Me conecté con la acción de las balas al estilo del viejo oeste, pero también lamenté la muerte de Elleroy dado que Chazz es uno de mis preferidos. Fue extraño verlos haciendo de los buenos, pero a su manera. En este film de tendencia conservadora, sucede de todo y eso rompe con los esquemas que ya conocía; ver a las fuerzas militares e incluso explosiones atómicas, sobrepasó mis parámetros para una cinta de thriller policíaco.
