When @wiseagent published the weekly theme (https://peakd.com/hive-166847/@wiseagent/league-of-movies-hive-writing-contest-third-edition-or-week-03-lol-laughing-out-loud) 2 movies immediately came to mind.
The first one was an Italian film entitled "Non ci resta che piangere", the other "The Hangover" known in Italy as "Una notte da Leoni".
I preferred to choose the second one because the first one is very tied to an Italian comedy of the 80s that could hardly be appreciated by those who are not Italian and do not like actors and absolute geniuses like Massimo Troisi and Roberto Benigni.
That's why I decided to speak, with very few or no spoilers, the funniest trilogy of recent years:

THE HANGOVER

The first film in the saga was released in cinemas back in 2009.
To give you an idea of its enormous success, the film grossed around $500 million, costing only 30 million.
A sensational gain that immediately convinced Major to ask director Todd Philips to shoot a sequel and then another one.

Yeah, that's him.
That Todd Philips.
The mind, the director behind that absolute masterpiece last year that was "The Joker".
But how did a director go from a funny, comic, exhilarating, over the top trilogy to a dramatic, intimate, claustrophobic film like the one with Joaquin Phoenix?
Probably because when you're good, you're always good. But perhaps also because in his filmography, Philips has shown that he is able to tell the mad minds, even though he does it with such different genres that they seem to be opposites.
If there's one agective that can describe "The Hangover", it's that one: Crazy.
Coming to the film, which I think you all know, it tells of a "reunion" of 3 friends at the wedding of one of the 3, Doug. The 3 of them have a crazy bachelor party in Las Vegas but have to deal with a new gang member, Alan. Alan is the bride's brother and is included in the bachelor party with some initial intolerance.
Zach Galifanakis, who plays Alan, is very good at calibrating the character of that insistent and very strange madness that envelops the character throughout the trilogy. Alan is in fact a lonely man, fragile and considered insane in the sense of mentally ill. Taciturn and apparently dull, he will prove to be a traveling companion above any madness.
Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) complete the most exhilarating quartet of recent years.
Anything will happen in Las Vegas.
The pattern is very precise.
Alan, silently, will drug the others and himself, unleashing a lion's night, a night where everything happens and everything is forgotten, including Doug's disappearance/abduction.
And from there Alan, Stu and Phil will search for Doug, retracing the insanity of the night and making new ones.
A pattern that will also be repeated in the second and third films of the trilogy, albeit with different locations.
The Hangover is the film "LOL" par excellence.
If you haven't seen it yet, get it now. If you already know it, maybe dust it off on a day when you need some smiles.

Il primo era un film italiano dal titolo "Non ci resta che piangere", l'altro "The Hangover" noto in Italia come "Una notte da Leoni".
Ho preferito scegliere il secondo in quanto il primo è molto legato ad una comicità italiana degli anni '80 che difficilmente potrebbe essere apprezzato da chi non è italiano e non ama attori e geni assoluti come Massimo Troisi e Roberto Benigni.
Ecco perchè ho deciso di parlare, con pochissimi o inesistenti spoiler, la trilogia più divertente degli ultimi anni:

THE HANGOVER

Quel Todd Philips.
La mente, la regia dietro quel capolavoro assoluto dello scorso anno che è stato "Joker".
Ma come ha fatto un regista a transitare da una trilogia divertente, comica, esilarante, sopra le righe ad un film drammatico, intimo, claustrofobico come quello del film con Joaquin Phoenix?
Probabilmente perchè quando uno è bravo è bravo sempre. Ma forse anche perchè nella sua filmografia, Philips ha dimostrato di essere in grado di raccontare le menti folli, pur facendolo con generi talmente diversi da sembrare opposti.
Se c'è un agettivo che può descrivere "The Hangover" è proprio quello: Folle.
Venendo al film, che credo conosciate tutti, esso narra di una "reunion" di 3 amici in occasione del matrimonio di uno dei 3, Doug. I 3 si concedono un folle addio al celibato a Las Vegas ma dovranno fare i conti con un nuovo componenente della banda, Alan. Alan è il fratello della sposa e viene incluso nell'addio al celibato con un pò intolleranza iniziale.
Zach Galifanakis, interprete di Alan, è bravissimo a calibrare il personaggio di quella follia insistita e stranissima che avvolge il personaggio per tutta la trilogia. Alan è infatti un uomo solo, fragile e considerato pazzo, nel senso di malato mentale. Taciturno e apparentemente spento, si rivelerà un compagno di viaggio al di sopra di qualunque follia.
Phil (Bradley Cooper) e Stu (Ed Helms) completano il quartetto più esilarante degli ultimi anni.
A Las Vegas succederà di tutto.
Lo schema è ben preciso.
Alan, silentemente, drogherà gli altri e se stesso, scatenando una notte da leoni, una notte dove tutto accade e tutto viene dimenticato, compresa la sparizione/rapimento di Doug.
E da li Alan, Stu e Phil si metteranno alla ricerca di Doug, ripercorrendo le insanità della notte e facendone delle nuove.
Uno schema che si ripeterà anche nel secondo e terzo film della trilogia seppur con location differenti.
The Hangover è il film "LOL" per antonomasia.
Se non lo avete ancora visto, recuperate subito. Se lo conoscete già, magari rispolveratelo in una giornata in cui avrete bisogno di qualche sorriso.
