[REVIEW] ITAEWON CLASS: business, revenge and inclusion. 😾

Good morning, friends! Today I started the day quite determined, I finally dared to make a review about this drama, which by the way is the first one I see by recommendation of a friend who likes doramas/k-dramas quite a lot. I had no expectations when I saw this, I just came to realize that this work is quite popular but better this way, not expecting anything avoids disappointment. In itself my impressions were positive and what I saw pleased me very much except for some topics. I understand that this title comes from a manhwa, which of course I have not read so on this occasion I will not be able to see if this adaptation is faithful to the original material. Without further ado, let's get started.

Hoy he comenzado bastante decidido el día, me he animado por fin a hacer una reseña sobre este drama, que por cierto es el primero que veo por recomendación de una amiga que le gustan bastante los doramas/k-dramas. Yo no tenía expectativa ninguna al ver esto, recién vengo a darme cuenta que esta obra es bastante popular pero mejor así, no esperar nada evita las decepciones. En sí mis impresiones fueron positivas y lo que vi me agradó mucho salvo algunos temas. Tengo entendido que este título viene de un manhwa, el cual por supuesto no me he leído así que en esta ocasión no podré hacer ver si esta adaptación es fiel al material original. Sin más dilación, comencemos.

Itaewon Class tells the story of Park Saeroyi, a high school boy faithful to the principles instilled in his upbringing, who on the first day of his new school ends up fighting with a classmate, Jang Geun-won, when he sees an injustice towards another classmate. The school has a saying: "Geun-won is the law," because his father owns a large conglomerate in the country, Jang Ga Group. The fight of these two will result in the appearance of Jang Dae-hee, owner of that company and head of Saeroyi's father, who will demand that Saeroyi kneel down and apologize to him in order not to be kicked out of school, which he flatly refuses to do when he sees that this would be against what he really thinks, culminating in Saeroyi's expulsion from school and the dismissal of his father. Saeroyi's father decided to start his own food business but was later killed by Geun-won in a "car accident", after which Saeroyi fell into prison after beating Geun-won. The series is about Park Saeroyi's quest for revenge against Jang Ga Group and how he is making his late father's dreams come true.

Itaewon Class nos narra la historia de Park Saeroyi, un chico de secundaria fiel a los principios que se le fueron inculcados en su crianza, que en el primer día de su nueva escuela termina peleándose con un compañero, Jang Geun-won, al ver una injusticia hacia otro compañero de clases. En la escuela se tiene el dicho de: "Geun-won es la ley", debido a que su padre es dueño de un conglomerado de gran embargadura en el país, Jang Ga Group. La pelea de estos dos resultará en la aparición de Jang Dae-hee, dueño de aquélla compañía y jefe del papá de Saeroyi, quién le exigirá a Saeroyi arrodillarse y pedirle disculpas para no ser echado de la escuela, éste se niega rotundamente al ver que esto estaría en contra de lo que él verdaderamente piensa, culminando en la expulsión de Saeroyi de la escuela y en el despido de su padre. El papá de Saeroyi decidirá montar su propio negocio de comida pero posteriormente será asesinado por Geun-won en un "accidente automovilístico", después de dichos sucesos Saeroyi caerá preso luego de moler a golpes a Geun-won. La serie va de Park Saeroyi en su búsqueda de venganza contra Jang Ga Group y cómo hace para hacer realidad los sueños de su difunto padre.

The main plot will focus on three aspects: business, revenge and inclusion. In the business section, we will see how our protagonist will climb despite the obstacles that will be imposed on his way, mostly caused by JangGa, we will see how Saeroyi will go from having a small local to a large company, showing us things like the importance of a business to have social networks and the importance of having good food and good atmosphere for customers, then touching on issues such as investments in the stock market. In the revenge we will see the perseverance, determination and principles of our protagonist, we will see how during the whole series Saeroyi could have solved all his problems just by kneeling down and apologizing but he opposes to the idea of having to do something like that, why kneel down and apologize if he has not done anything wrong? It doesn't make any sense. Saeroyi's life is defined as bitter and will be considered sweet only when his revenge is complete. He does not make use of dirty tricks like his opponents, he will follow the honorable path in the face of any adversity.

La trama principal se centrará en tres aspectos: negocios, venganza y inclusión. En apartado de los negocios veremos cómo nuestro protagonista irá escalando a pesar de las trabas que se le impondrán en su camino, en su mayoría ocasionadas por JangGa, veremos cómo pasará Saeroyi de tener un pequeño local a una gran empresa, mostrándonos cosas como la importancia de que un negocio tenga redes sociales y la importancia de tener buena comida y buen ambiente para los clientes, tocando después temas como las inversiones en la bolsa. En la venganza veremos la perseverancia, determinación y principios de nuestro protagonista, veremos cómo durante toda la serie Saeroyi podría haber solucionado todos sus problemas con tal solo arrodillarse y pedir disculpas pero él se opone ante la idea de tener que hacer algo como eso, ¿por qué arrodillarse y pedir perdón si él no ha hecho nada malo? No tiene sentido alguno. La vida de Saeroyi es definida como amarga y solo se llegará a considerar dulce cuando su venganza esté completa. Él no hace uso de trucos sucios como su oponentes, seguirá el camino honorable ante cualquier adversidad.

Inclusion being the best handled topic, it deserves a separate paragraph. It's simply wonderful the way they deal with these topics, being that all the co-stars are people who participate in the inclusion within the series, thus finding us characters who suffer from mental disorders such as sociopathy, people who do not feel any emotion and do not follow the pre-established rules in order to achieve their goals, people who in the past were in prison denying them the opportunity to change or get better jobs being denigrated by the Korean population, people who are transgender/transsexual showing as the main problem how stigmatized this is among the inhabitants of the Asian country, even saying hurtful words and making these people less. And last but not least they also deal with racism, showing us on screen a boy with a black complexion but who speaks Korean perfectly and is treated in a derogatory manner even though he belongs to that country. This cast is perfect because it defines what the city of Itaewon means, which is diversity.

La inclusión siendo el tema mejor llevado, se merece un párrafo aparte. Es simplemente maravilloso la forma en que tratan dichos temas siendo que todos los co-protagonistas son gente que participan en la inclusión dentro de la serie, encontrándonos así personajes que padecen transtornos mentales como la sociopatía, gente que no siente ninguna emoción y no sigue las normas preestablecidas con tal de conseguir sus objetivos, gente que en el pasado estuvieron en prisión negándoles la oportunidad de cambiar o obtener mejores empleos siendo denigrados por la población coreana, gente que es transgénero/transexual mostrando como principal problema lo estigmatizado que está esto entre los habitantes del país asiático, llegando a decir palabras hirientes y haciendo de menos a estas personas. Y por último y no menos importante tratan también el racismo, mostrándonos en pantalla a un chico de tez negra pero que habla perfectamente el coreano siendo tratado de manera despectiva aún perteneciendo a aquel país. Este elenco es perfecto porque define lo que la ciudad de Itaewon significa, que es diversidad.

The only flaw that ruins the outcome of this story is the romance or the main love triangle, not for anything but from the beginning it is a topic that is left super apart and not treated at all making the resolution feel somewhat rushed and little worked, occurring that the final part falls completely when the subject is focused on this. It would really have been a thousand times better if the main character had not stayed with anyone. And I fully appreciate the exciting first parts that do not focus on Saeroyi's love affair as it feel dynamic and truly exciting.

El único desperfecto que arruina el desenlace de esta historia es el romance o el principal triángulo amoroso, no es por nada pero desde el principio es un tema que se deja súper aparte y no se llega a tratar para nada haciendo que la resolución se sienta algo apresurada y poco trabajada, ocurriendo que la parte final decaiga por completo cuando el tema se centra en esto. De verdad hubiera quedado mil veces mejor que el protagonista no se quedara con nadie. Y aprecio en totalidad las emocionantes primeras partes que no se centran en la relación amorosa de Saeroyi ya que se sienten dinámicas y verdaderamente emocionantes.

In conclusion, friends. I have to admit: I loved this k-drama. I had never seen a series that masterfully takes things like inclusion, having previously seen some Netflix series where this theme feels very forced, the characters are about to be looking like cardboard, but here it happens the opposite, each character has his story, his background and his reason for being, the themes they address and how they do it is simply magnificent. The story catches you from beginning to end, the main villains don't look like cartoons, they have a quite clear purpose and the final resolution although it is not of my total pleasure is quite decent, happening that it falls in fall in the final stretch. One thing I want to highlight is the wonderful soundtrack that this work brings with it, I am sure that some songs will stay in your head how good they are. Without a doubt a good and interesting story.

En conclusión, amigos. Tengo que admitirlo: me encantó mucho este k-drama. Nunca había visto una serie que lleve de forma magistral cosas como la inclusión, habiendo antes visto algunas series de Netflix donde dicho tema se siente forzadísimo, los personajes están por estar pareciendo de cartón, pero acá pasa todo lo contrario, cada personaje tiene su historia, su transfondo y su razón de ser, los temas que abordan y cómo lo hacen es simplemente magnífico. La historia te atrapa de principio a fin, los villanos principales no parecen de caricaturas, tienen un propósito bastante claro y la resolución final aunque no es de mi total agrado es bastante decente, pasando que cae en picada en el tramo final. Una cosa que quiero destacar es la maravillosa banda sonora que esta obra trae consigo, estoy seguro que algunos temas se te quedarán grabados en la cabeza de lo buenos que son. Sin duda una buena e interesante historia.
